Summer holiday snaps

I've just got back from my annual two weeks at the in-laws in Tyrol Austria. This year I decided to take the car back to its roots. So after Classic Le Mans I drove back to Brussels and then on the Tuesday loaded the car up with assorted bags and mountain bike and set off for the 10 hr sprint to Innsbruck.
After a couple of days I decided to make a day trip to Gmund in Carinthia via the famous Grosse Glockner Alpine pass - Porsche's old test ground. This was a big mistake as the Glockner was one big traffic jam. Too many bloody famillies in SUVs who where scared of heights and climbing at 5kph!! I wasn't there for the view but the drive and so became just a little frustrated. A bit like the M6 on Friday nights The moral of my story - visit Austria out of season
I arrived at the unofficial Porsche Museum in Gmund after 4 hours (it should have been 2.5). A nice collection it was worth the visit - even if I had seen most of the cars and new the history from places like Goodwood. The people were friendly. Gmund is a delightful little fortified town and could be a good overnight stop for those of you not fortunate enough to have married into an Austrian family.
On the way back to Brussels this weekend, racing the plane (my better half and daughter insist on flying ) I just had time to drop into the official Stuttgart factory museum. It was virtually deserted and again was well worth the visit. I usually drop in once a year and the cars on show are always changing. Good stuff.
Altogether the car did over 1500 fully laiden miles cruising at around 100mph with no problems. I even touched 120 on the Stuttgart-Karlsruhe-Baden Baden Autobahn! But hey that's what Butzi designed it for 40 years ago.
What has anyone else been up to Porsche and holiday wise?

My father-in-law (Passat driver) kept telling me that my car would have terrible problems when going down the big climbs. But I can safely say that I didn't have any misfires, backblowing, popping whatsoever. May have been that it was very hot. Could be that the motor and carbs have bee rebuilt and the guy who set it up knows what he's doing. (My problem is he's disappeared). On thinking about it I had a couple of misfires one day when there was high humidity.
The car ran like a dream. I regularly use it for such trips during Summer months and have yet to take out any RAC cover! (Mainly as they won't cover me due to me not being in teh UK enough). Apart from the plastic covered recaros there is nothing more enjoyable than a burst up teh autobahn

For anyone who wants to see the Gmund museum you more or less see it all on the website www.porschemuseum.at my favourite car was the Gmund 356 and the Berg Spyder.
