Croft Circuit - new noise levels !

Post by hot66 »

With all the hassle over noise Croft had last year, they have introduced the Track days again for 2010 . Now sessioned with only 10 cars on a track at any one time.

But , look at the new noise requirements !!!

 My stock 2.4S is 105dB at 3/4 revs

I'd bet my Volvo is louder than that. Crazy.

The irony is that tests have proved that the screeching and squealing of the tyres cause the bulk of the noise "pollution".

Also considering that my lawnmower is rated at 96dB (it's a std, with no modification or racey decals !!) I suspect the are going a bit OTT

Just been looking at the Blue Book, and I wonder if the 88dB limit is measured at 2.0m and not 0.5 m, as 88 & 86 are the limits for stage and road rally cars at this distance
Cheers

Mike,
You are quite right. In fact the 88db(A) measured at 2.0m equates to 100db(A) at 0.5m in the blue book table. That is at 4500rpm
The method of measurement needs to be fully defined. My 2.7 engine passes the 98db(A) at 0.5m requirement for road rally at 2/3max rpm!! Mind it helps when the scrutineer believes the engine only revs to 5000rpm!!

Extract from Croft "Terms and Conditions" for track days:

2: Noise Levels must not exceed 88 dbA on a static ½ metre test. Please note that your car will be noise tested and if it is found to be over the limit then it will not be able to take part. Temporary devices are not allowed.

Ridiculously low. I hope they never have to cut the grass on the outfield!

time to get a rev counter from a 'diesel' fitted ;)

3/4 revs sir ? Oh that'll be 3150 rpm ;)

Mind you, Croft do have their hands tied unfortunately due to the stupid 'within family' / ex wife squabbling / getting one over thing   Of course it was OK when she had a financial interest in the place

Do you know what is really annoying, the main East Coast High Speed railway line is running nearby with trains passing every 10 mins or so during the day  ..... that's not noisy is it !
