It would be real handy to be able to search through the memberlist alphabetically now there are so many members. Is there a way of doing that?

OK, I am stupid but now tell me how stupid
I of course have used the 'sort by username' tab.
Then I want to go straight to the 'M's' without trawling through all the pages. At the bottom I can only get as far as 'go to page 3' (where I would expect to see a topless model). Or I could 'go to page 126' but that doesn't help me either.
What now?

You can of course use the 'search' tool at the top and put the username in the author field and nothing else, you'll then get a list of any threads that user has posted in and you can easily find a post by them.
Best I can do I'm afraid

That's only going to work if you know the username exactly.Bootsy wrote:You can of course use the 'search' tool at the top and put the username in the author field and nothing else, you'll then get a list of any threads that user has posted in and you can easily find a post by them.

No worries Bootsy. I just thought there was a way of searching by first letter and I was missing something but obviously not. Thanks for replying.

Mike

I think.
Mike for example

This is not what I am trying to do. I have a poor memory and sometimes I want to find somebody who's name on DDK I 'think' may begin with 'N' for example. I want to go to the 'N's and run down the names to see if I can spot the name that I think is lurking in the back of my head.Bootsy wrote:very trueNorthy wrote:You can use the wildcard on user searches - so something like m* would bring back all users beginning with m.

I can do this on the Early S registry ( Shame on me) and more often than not the name I am looking for pops out of the list and I am happy!!
I am not looking for posts here, just names that I have forgotten.
Regards
Mike

Pick anyone to send a PM to (even yourself, it's immaterial).
Click on the box "Find a user name" and enter "n*", you'll get a list of usernames begining with N....
Bit round the houses but simples?

The method was born of necessity... for some reason my A/V software insists that my name goes into any recipients address box and does this automatically, so I'm forever sending replies to myself
By the time I realise that the recipient's name is wrong I've forgotten who I'm writing to so I need to search the names.

I'm considering a forum upgrade soon which would have a better search facility.early_911 wrote:Whilst on the topic . . . in the search tool, would it be possible to add search 'title only'.
Plus . . . when I click back from a post I've looked at through search, I end up with page not found and have to click back again and re-enter the search words . . . . what am I doing wrong.
Phil
If you do hit back after viewing a post and get a not found page just hit F5 and refresh and your search results will be there - hey presto!
