Le Mans?

Post by Bootsy »

I've seen a couple of Le Mans visitors lurking so where are the pics. I've seen a load on another forum and also heard a viscious rumour about a drunken Hot66!

Yes, come on, I'm dying to see everyone wandering round the display in their dinner jackets!

Am wading through hundreds of e-mails atm but will get some pics up this afternoon hopefully. It was a great event, 7 early 911’s in convoy is a beautiful thing!

As was the “high speed testing” run into Dieppe!

Ok I’ve got 15mins in my lunch break, so here’s the full SP on Classic Le Mans.

IT WAS AWESOME

The DDK contingent consisted of Me, Hot66 (James), Nigel Watkins, Early 911 (Phil), Charlotte, Paul S and Tony Brooks in our 911’s ranging from Tony's 1965 S to James’ 1973 S. Nick Moss came along in his oil burning BMW (which was remarkably quick). So that’s 7 911’s in convoy from Dieppe, was a great sight (I think my brother has some good pics on his camera which I’ll get in a couple of days)

Despite everyone worrying about how much oil we were burning and whether the old cars would make it to Le Mans in one piece we all managed to cruise at 90 on the way down and some of us were up to 130 on the way back. The event itself was great, so many lovely cars, great crowd of people, and I confess the PCGB arranged tickets were worth the membership fee, access to all paddocks and the pit lane (when there wasn’t a race on) no problem. For those that went on the track laps (which I didn’t manage to get because some jobsworth gave me the wrong lap number, fing muppet!) the grins stretched from ear to ear. I’ll definitely be going to the next one (although I will take a fridge and a BIG tent).

Met a good crowd of people, including other DDKers such as Stefan (gold SC), Sean (burgundy 914) and met Mark Bennet on the ferry back and a very nice chap he was too (although we does drive a boxster….) Oh and many thanks to Mike Burdon for the bottle of vin rouge, glad to see your car wasn’t ruined by that smoke screen on the track!

You’ll be pleased to know that a DDK car also won the Classic Le Mans Classic Porsche Concors prize that honour goes to Phil (early 911) in his gleaming red 911 T

As for the drinking, well there was an awful lot of it, and a few pictures will be forthcoming soon (Paul be afraid!)

One problem all my pics are too big to post an the forum (and work doesn’t have a photo editor), so if I can mail them to someone to shrink them and or post that’d be great

I hope everyone got back home from the ferry safely and it didn't take too long to get offloaded.
I had an amazing week-end, thanks everyone!
