Restoration of a RHD 2.2S

Hi,
I have been meaning to post some pics of my RHD 2.2S that we car currently restoring. It was in very poor condition when I bought it after being caught in a workshop fire, filled with water then left outside rotting away for some time.
Anyway I am sucker for these early cars and hence a full resto has begun.
The engine (matching numbers) has seen better days :lol
What was really interesting is that last year we sold, after fully restoring it, a different RHD 2.2 which was in fact the twin to this car. By that I mean they left the production line one after the other! and to top if off they were both RHD 2.2Ss, both in metallic silver with Black interiors, both with recaro sports seats, both tinted glass etc.
Here is its twin 2.2S after resto
Back to this 2.2S. What remained of the car was stripped. The shell was braced in preparation for amount of rust/metal works that was going to be removed.

Barry = talented/patient/ determined x 10/ will never see Xmas
DDK = fortunate to be able to watch this one come together.

this looks like some prehistoric monster thats about to be put on display in the Natural History Museum

Barry always like a challenge & Alan, most / others would have scrapped that shell so hats off to you for saving it rather than re-shelling it

That pic reminds me about the Lego Bionicle movie my son is watching right at moment I'm writing this. And by coincidense, I just read the article about the siblings restoration on the Classic Porsche magazine by CHP in the middle of last night.

Hi,
Thanks for the kind words and PMs. It seems this car has now earned the term "swamp car",
As I mentioned it was in a building that got pretty hot!
But it is a RHD 2.2S and one which left the product line directly before my old 2.2S so I really want to fully resto this car to its original former glory.

Too late Andy I picked it up this morning - Alan said it was one of his slower jobs
Great work Alan - was the plan to finish a few cars and then get back to your Phd work !

What was left of the shell was blasted before going on the jig to remove all the old paint and underseal.

Hi again,
It is time to start looking on the up side. New metal is starting to go back in. Besides all the new panels, including, NS front inner wing, both inner rear wings, all bolt on panels, roof, scuttle, tank support and surround, inner sills outer sills, jack points etc, front and rear slam panels plus more, there is a huge amount of handmade panels that have been made. What pictures I have attached just show some of the work in some of the areas but I hope they give a good idea of the level we want to achieve.
Eg. This is the work just on the RH screen corner, which is constructed from several layers.
