Adjustable spring plate bosses + 3mm length
original length ones
Just come across this thread, It gives me some thoughts of how to tackle FGW10C Looks good, but a few comments
The bosses that the spring plate caps bolt onto look like they are the 3mm longer ones, for the adjustable spring plates! Shortening them by grinding is an option but check the internal thread length as from memory there is only 6mm of thread. Possibly of looked better if the seat belt area had been butt welded in.
Another optionis to add a 3mm shim on the out side of the spring plate (to simulate the adjuster piece) to give the correct complression of the bushes!
Other than that looks great

Jeff:
1) The inner wing was an old stock Porsche one that came with no torsion tube area kit at all (no reinforcing plate, and no bosses). Therefore the bosses were turned up from solid to the length of the originals, and the reinforcing plate had to be saved and refurbished from the original.
2) The seatbelt reinforcing area was done by the factory: i.e. they have the rather ugly overlap. If it hadn't had it, then I'd have made up a replacement area (to blank off the inertia seatbelt area that later inner wings come with), and butt welded it in, as per here (RS, another Canford project):
I guess we could have drilled all of the spotwelds out, cut the seam welds, and let it in flush, but at the time we agreed that if it was good enough for Porsche, it would be good enough for us. As it happens, I've got to do both processes on John's 2.2E, so will bare your comments in mind .
Looking forward to seeing some of your completed restorations .

Thanks for the post Barry.
I managed to find time to take the 2.2S up to Bob Watson's so we could check the fuelling and do a preliminary test. This is the 5th time I have been to Bobs in as many weeks !
and a short movie of the car.
Thanks
Alan

Hi,
The 2.2S has just been photographed by Jamie Lipman (www.jameslipman.com) for a future magazine feature. It was great to spend some time with Jamie and John Glynn (www.johndglynn.com) a real pleasure to meet and chat with them, both a fellow pair of Porsche nuts.
I have not seen the pictures Jamie has taken yet and I look forward to seeing them. The photo shoot was great fun...
and Jamie got a few detail pics
Thanks

Re: Restoration of a RHD 2.2S
Yep. Was a good one. When dinosaurs roamed the earth and Jamie was even younger.
Whenever I worried about the metalwork on my 2.2S resto (which I didn't much, to be honest, since Barry was doing it), I would look at this photo...
... and think - he fixed that one. Could be worse!

Re: Restoration of a RHD 2.2S
I'm absolutely stunned that it can be pared back that far and still come out like a new car at the end !!
Incredible skills ! ... and balls !

Re: Restoration of a RHD 2.2S
To be honest I have since restored worse than that S. Crumbs looking at this thread again, it was also along time ago. That 2.2S I feel was one of the first web based presented resto’s of which many have now been done. Good times.
