iPhone Maps - Completely non Porsche!

Post by Gary71 »

The internet having failed me, I turn to my technology savvy friends on DDK...

This may be a dumb question, but is there anyway of getting the map to keep your flashing blue dot in the centre of the screen and scroll the map automatically? You have to press the location button bottom left each time you drive off the screen otherwise.

I have a feeling this is entirely deliberate to make you buy a proper sat nav app.

Any ideas?

Press on the locator button on the bottom left - as long as that is 'lit up' the map will scroll automatically - however if you move the map manually this switches off again.

Maybe it was a dumb question! :)

I thought that the second press just turned the compass on.

Yes I get the feeling it is crippled on purpose to make it too annoying/dangerous to use in a car.

I've considered getting TomTom for iPhone but £60 is a bit rich when I already have a perfectly good nav unit.

You can try CoPilot, which is about £27 for the UK maps version from the apps store - just downloaded for my wives iPhone & seems to do the job.

Exactly what it says in the instructions...

I'll try it on the way home. Thanks for the pointer.
