does anybody here know this guy (from UK)

Post by Gustl »

like the headline says ...

----------
Collins Duminda
7 Westland Gardens
Alverstoke
Gosport
Hants
UK
PO12 2LT
----------

I offered my 914 for sale on a german online market place and somebody from UK contacted me and showed interest
In general I'm open to every buyer, but this one smells a little suspect ...

I just wonder if this is a valid post address and a real person - not any kind of criminal intend ...

any input would be highly apreceated

thanks in advance,

Gustl

in 2001 / 2002 I won an auction for a Hammond B3 complete with Leslie - original UK 240V. Anyone into these things will tell you this is a rare beast (only around 250 having been made and most ruined).

Final bid was for about £2,500 - very good value - I was most pleased......

Guy emailed immediately the auction was over saying I had to pay immediately or he would list it again. I replied this was a little harsh, but as a gesture of good faith, I'd send 50% to him and the rest in cash on collection.

I wasn't very well at this time - so a chap who worked for me set off in a hired van (another £400 of costs all in) and drove to the address in Eastbourne.

He got there to find it was a dentist practice and no one had ever heard of the supposed seller - or my missing B3.

In short I was down £1,250 (50%) and the £400 it cost to go and collect.

Sussex Police were very helpful - the guy 'Oleg Omerovich' had numerous aliases and was linked to organised crime, money laundering, people trafficking and other horrific acts - he was well known to them but kept popping up like a weed in the garden each time he got caught out.

I don't mean to do your man a disservice - he may be absolutely delightful - but for me, unless I see someone, I'm not interested in doing high value trades at a distance.

Sorry - just my point of view....

You can buy credits on 192.com and look him up on the electoral roll - in other words, identify if someone with that name is currently paying tax at that address.

Gusti

Try a Google search of the name Collins Duminda - it shows some trade directories with the same name. Looks a bit odd to me.

thanks @ all for your input

it seems odd to me too ... this is why I have my doubts ...

is there something like an online phone register for UK phone numbers ?
if I could find out the phone number, I could try to reach him on the phone and ask if he's real ... not a dentist or something else ...

of course I would prefere to sell it fact-to-face ... but I would have no problem with a serious deal with a UK guy

Got a landline number for him ?- should begin 02392 ------

That's about 10 miles from me but an awful drive - I'd be happy to call him for you - I'll be able to tell if he's local alright.

Won't really know if he's a good buyer tho

Alverstoke is a posh area of Gosport.
