Car registration info needed
Can anyone help me,Ive been to look at a car that has a chassis number and number plate of a 1934 car but retains only those Items from it,the rest being built up.I understand about SVA etc but if this was SVA'd it would have had a q-plate affixed to it or not?
Its been on the road for 10 years since being put together.
Ive shaken hands on a deal but not passed any money over yet and Im just a bit unsure of this.
Thanks in advance
Graham

Only cars less than 10 years old require an SVA. The DVLA sometimes wants to view a car if it has been off their radar for many years, I don't see why they would want to see this car if it has been registered and used (and presumably taxed) for the last 10 years. Q plates are given to cars that are freshly built and cannot prove that a major part of the car dates from a certain year.

No its been on the road, its a little hot rod, viva front, volvo rear and a box chassis,Im sure it was built after the sva's came in,but I cant see how its got a pre-war ID? as the vin and plate are the only bits pre-war!
Im thinking it was built and the ID used on it,undergoing no tests Like the sva.
Im just making sure before I part with any money!

Be careful of cars like this. There were a lot of kit cars incorrectly described on their log books and they are now becoming difficult to get through MOT’s because of this and consequently are difficult to sell. I would check the DVLA websites, I think if the car has been significantly modified from its original it needs to be SVAed and then correctly described on the log book. It might be worth asking the same question on a hot rod site.

Fman I have just done that and you have pretty much hit the nail on the head, with the new computer system mot's these cars are getting flagged up and MOT testers are having to refere them to the dvla for sva tests.
This car I looked atwas very nicely done,no seat belts though, being 1934 it should'nt need any,but being built 10 or so years ago maybe it should have?!
I think I will pass on it even after shaking hands on the deal, feel a bit bad But I dont want serious trouble later on.
Thanks for the replys guys.
