Porsche Tractor

Post by 914-6 »

Hi All.
Does anyone out there know of a Tractor for sale ? I am looking to buy one. Ideally it will be in running order, not a show queen--I intend using it to pull trees and plough the land !!
Don't mind buying one with work to be done, the more complete the better.
Any help gratefully received.
thanks
Ian

Ian,

If you are going to do some heavy work, you need a 2 or 3 Cylinder

I have had a number of small Tractors over the years a Grey Fergi (Diesel) - Massey 135 etc etc and the Porsche Junior (a single cylinder) does not have the power of the last version of the Grey Fergies and even the Fergi would grunt in Essex soil with a single furrow plough on the back

I currently run the Junior with a 5-foot rotary grass cutter and it will go through 6-foot high brush but you need to use low ratio and high revs which is hard on the old girl (burns about 2 litres per hour in this mode)

John Hearn is the guy to talk to, as you already know, he is as straight as a die and has great contacts in Germany - If there is a good one he will find it

In addition I did know of a triple in the UK which has currently vanished but a little ferretting might turn it up - there are also a lot in Ireland

Make sure it has FULL Hydraulics they did not all come fully equipped and I have NEVER seen two tractors the same

Give me a ring if you want a chat - 01288 711 142

I know nothing about the tractors themselves, but if you find one and have any problems with the hydraulics PM me

I had exactly the same thought about 3 mths ago and researched this a bit
If you are doing anything other than shows and driving up and down the yard a Junior is a waste of time
I looked around for a Master ...the only one I found was running but in Spain for Eu17K. It was running but not perfect
When it came down to it with the slope on the patch I have and the bits n pieces I needed done I plumed for an 80s 60HP, 4wd with a loader for less than £3K

In truth it may be cheaper to buy a cheap 80s tractor and a junior if you think you may be doing heavier work
Cheers
Hig

I used to have a 72 911 I drove every day... Now I have projects...
'73 911 Track car ...being put back together
'59 Conv D... refit underway...Upholstery done !!

I have about 30ft of grass left now , what tractor do I need?

I prefer maintence free gravel and stones. Mind you that was before little one and now he likes to eat the gravel  he has about another 7 tonne to go at the moment

Porsche tractors

Hig,

You malign the Junior a little bit - it has a tremendous torque and very useful small tractor - it will do anything a Grey Fergy can handle so that really is the lower benchmark for Tractors

The Major is an enormous machine in comparison and is generally too large for the average jobs - It also breaks its crank on a regular basis - not something that you want to be replacing very often

The twin or better still the triple are the more versatile machines if you have enough work for them

It's not quite full size Chris, the 3 & 4 cyl were bigger, HOWEVER this 2 cyl is exactly the type I want.
Thanks for the link Helen, but seller has removed it !!!
