Take James advice. Here is a nice rust free California 912 for £4400. Add shipping and taxes and you will be well below £7500. You could even add the flights and have a holiday in San Fran and just think no welding!

I know what you’re saying about the'12. But I promised myself the extra two cylinders...

Well here goes reality check. I'm trying to cut a long story short. Even though I was into Vdubs and used to do all the work myself I have never done anything big to my 911 since I bought it due to lack of time and expertise.

Scenario one - Nick Blow case study

1997 bought 911T for 8k (independent report said it was a good car)
1998 rear-end falls out due to rust mite around teh torsion tube area
- remedy a quick fix by a mate
-heat exchangers and box go walkabout replaced with SSI stainless (1500)
bubbling begins to appear around A post, front wings, battery trays, spare wheel well, etc
1999 engine and gearbox give up the ghost (cost 4k)
2001 Starts looking really sad and then disintegrates. As love is blind book it in for full rebuild. Following panels replaced wings, spare wheel well, battery trays, bonnet, sills, the whole floor and rear seats, etc.
Also started to get into NOS steering wheel, original Fuchs,
Final bill 16k

TOTAL COST including purchase 28k

I'm still paying off the loan but hey it is worth it (to me not anyone else)

Case Study 2 - Mike Blow story (learnt from my mistake)

Bought Carrera 3 for 9500
All big jobs done by previous owner, excellent condition
Valued by PCGB at 13k

My advice - save your money and wait for a good one that has already been done. Let someone else spend their hard earned cash

Don't kid yourself that you'll be happy driving a rat, no matter how much an outlaw!!
