914 Resto (Stage 2)

Post by pillay2k »

Thought i'd split my restoration in 2 as the first thread had so many pics it took ages to load to the latest post on the previous thread...

Anyways, following on from getting the car filled, moved onto one more full coat of POR15 to encapsulate the whole car and protect from future rust.

Then on went one coat of spray filler then one coat of primer. I decided to add a thin layer of stonechip protection on the underside before paint.

Currently the car is awaiting topcoat to be applied on Sat. Looking really good and shiny both underneath and inside. Will try to get some pics of under the car tomorrow. 8)

Thanks for the comments guys. Colour is L32K, as factory for this car... t looks so different in pictures and real life/ lighting conditions.

The not so fantastic...

Stripped down the bonnet today... not good. Very rotten and a hell of a lot of filler.
Doubt i will be able to find a better one for reasonable money so will be repairing! I'll save up for a GT balsa/fibreglass option as a back up i think...
**If anyone does have a good bonnet for sale, please get in contact!**
Anyways,
The BAD, the UGLY...
It was very nicely filled all the way round... but thats not right... so got the strip and clean wheel out...

Phoenix Red... Don't think I've seen one in that colour before. Looks great.

That's bonnet certainly looks fecked! Post an ad in the wanted section I'm sure someone will have one in a better condition than that. It'll take a lot of effort and time to save that one.

Phoenix red is same colour as mine. I remember thinking if I'd made the right choice when I drove up to the paintshop, it's so orange in the day light.
In every picture I have taken the colour looks different as it's so affected by daylight. I love now.

Getting somewhere with assembly at last. Going quite slowly as i want to get everything clean and nice before it goes back on...
Awiting lots of parts for the suspension to return from the electroplaters but then i can get it back on its wheels!
New bearings and brake going on all round too!

Thanks to Lothar

2009 Update!!

Well final year exams have come around but i sneakily managed to do so much coursework over the last semester that i have close to finished! One more exam to go but 10days off in the meantime so back home and in the garage... (Thank god that its got central heating)

Really is about time i put the car back together again for the summer...
Needed to get the car back on its wheels, luckily i had all the new bearings and brake to hand and most parts had already been cleaned, painted and prepared for assembly.

Going to rebuild the brake calipers tomorrow and get them installed... lots more to do but it look more like a car and less than an expensive piece of shiny metal 8)

This really is looking fantastic: It's a credit to you, and all of the hard work that you've put in.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing it in the flesh :) .
