History of the car:
The car is a non-modified, accident free, German delivered Carrera 3, which was imported with full Porsche service history at approximately 91000 km in the UK in July 1982.
The car was allocated an X-plate.
The car had two registered owners in the UK. The car was maintained at JCT600, the official Porsche dealership from Jack Tordoff in Leeds.
The sportomatic gearbox was completely rebuild july 1984 at approximately 100.000 kms. We suspect because of only a faulty solenoid costing 26 pounds-however the bill was a bit higher than that!
The car was laid up in summer 1989 in a protected garage because the heat exchangers were rusted through and the heater flapper boxes were stuck. The car didn’t run until purchase by the current owner in October 2007.
The owner, a fastidious concours winning classic car restorer, embarked on a full restoration with a money- no- object approach in December 2007. The work, excluding the engine work, exceeds 850 man hours.
This encompassed:
-dissambly of the car: wings, bumpers, panels, windows, seals and gaskets. No evidence of any welding, accident repair or rust
-stripping of outer paint
-removal of 5 layers of waxoil underseal
-removal of Porsche Schutz underseal to look for rust
-reapplication of Porsche Schutz underseal + two pack paint in guards red

-dissambling, refurbishment, resealing and rebushing and reassembly of front suspension and rear suspension components

-refurbishment of 4 brake callipers, correctly cadmium plated in Porsche AG silver/gold

-refurbishment of all oil lines, cooler, thermostat

-engine went to arguably the best early Porsche specialist for the Carrera 3.o: Mike Bainbridge engineering in Kendall, Cumbria.
http://www.mbporsche-engineering.co.uk/?About
The engine was completely dissembled, cleaned, measured, balanced, reassembled with correct washers, nuts and bolt. 11 blade cooling fan upgrade. New heat exchangers, stainless steel standard exhaust.
-The gearbox linkage, bushes, universal joints were cleaned, rebushed, and reassembled
-New vacuum control valve + solenoid for the sportomatic fitted
-All ancillaries like alternator, starter motor and injection system completely stripped and refurbished
-flushed, cleaned, resealed oil tank and petrol tank
-car was repainted in original Guards red two pack paint.
-Reassembly with new Original Equipment Porsche rubbers and gaskets throughout
-repaint in Wurth satin black of the Fuchs inners, however there are minor scuff marks on the rear 8J fuchs. Anodising is perfect
-Original Road Tests, Brochures + price lists, restoration information etc are supplied on DVD-rom
We hope the car goes to an appreciating owner. Although the sportomatic gearbox is often misunderstood, this is one that works. The differences in performance are:
Standard carrera 3.0

Carrera 3.0 Sportomatic
The price is £22.000
The car is based near Norton/Doncaster, South Yorks
