sorry couldn't resist.

really Mint condition 912 are out there but are hard to find. many have been DIY restored :? or "upgraded" with a 911 engne. which for me rather spoils the whole point of having a 912.

Yep, you don't see many mint ones - Capped values compared to a 911, combined with equal if not higher resto costs, mean that very few end up being exceptional. This situation is changing though.

We look after two or three really mint cars for clients, but none of the owners are interested in selling. I asked them years ago!

Hi,

Thanks . . . I'm back and forth to the UK . . . but I'd want LHD anyway :)

UK cars are a 'compromise' IMHO

Germany has just started ( well about 2 years ago ) to take note of 912's when I was out and about some Germans were all over my car.... they wanted to buy it.. there and then.

My Mate in Germany gets asked almost every time he goes out in his, do you want to sell it.

There has also been some very high prices being asked in Germany..

I know some south Ca guys who have sold to Germans.. Seems of late we are not the people in the market it's the Germans followed by the Dutch that are kings of the buyers markets at the moment!!

Hmmm interesting subject this of 912's in the US with asking prices of $20,000+ having spent alot of time in San Fran looking at the Porsche world and knowing a few people out there it's interesting that one or two dealers popped in some high prices and then suddenly EVERY ones on to a 912 for $20,000 +

I had lunch with Al in San Fran ( the stable Al ) and we spoke about this very subject. Where as the car is very nice I have to say it will take a dedicated person or 912 fan to part with that level of investment. I am not having a go I am just very well up on 912s and 356 values state side and Europe.

Jeff Trask had a car up for sale about 2 years ago for $24,999 and it sold to a guy who just wanted it at any cost and since then prices have seen a hike of copy cat... You can still pick up 912's for $2500 for a starter.. Those tyres should be binned ASAP old tyres are just bad news. For some reason they love to see them ..

I looked up the word MINT in the Classic car buyer guide..

" Shiny and Bright just under Concours condition. Any Defects should small and minor. You will get a fine example for this money "

Average

" Tidy and ready to use, but needing some cosmetic attention to bring up in standard. You will need to spend more money to bring up to Mint standard "

interesting topic..

Ask Dave ( REN ) what he thinks of European Collectables

Just let me know first so I can be aleast 20 miles way from him when you do ask!!!!!

I am not having a go at US cars we have all seen and dealt with them... Just remember the US does not have MOT's and you have to be very careful to pick up a good car that will not need huge amounts of work to pass the MOT and keep it that way. I have seen some very nice looking cars until your on hands and knees to have a poke and prod at the duck tape floor!!! this was a speedster for $89,000!!!!!!!! back in 2006 labled as " Recent Full Resto " :?

Ask Andy Prill about rebuilt Motors.. He has a wall of shame and I remeber it was always very well stocked in his old place.. now he just has some real gems...

Home made main bearings..

A Cranks with more holes than a cheese grater!!!!! in order to balance it

bent rods by the bucket load

some cracking heads and P/C sets to take your breath away!!!!!

Mike PRS had a 160bhp motor in reported to have 160bhp from a rolling road tune up.. and paper work to show it.. I think he was left with the heads and the valve covers after they took it apart to measure it all... the rest was scrap!!!!!
