Starting in the early 1970’s, Jägermeister began to get involved with motor sports. For a nearly 100-year-old company, this was a very big shift in their branding tactics. They quickly created an alliance with Porsche and created some of the most recognizable and winning racecars for decades to come.

We decided to honor this unique relationship by building a tribute Porsche race-themed car. If many of you are like us, we love the look of the vintage Porsche racecars and have always dreamed of driving them. However, many of us don’t have the time to race and would prefer to drive our toys rather than look at them in our garage. So, we created this car to appeal to people like us: those who love to drive.

I must admit, as we get older, the thought of driving a thoroughbred race car on a 1,000 mile drive becomes less and less appealing. So, when we built this car, we focused on making this car very drivable, comfortable, reliable, and still fun.

We started with a very clean 1979 Porsche 911 SC with 140,000 freeway miles. This car was purchased new in Southern California and was owned by only two people (neighbors). They both had the car serviced and maintained at the famous Andial. No service was overlooked or deferred. By time we found the car, it was in need of some freshening up.

We stripped the car completely. Engine, transmission, windows, etc….everything was removed. We custom ordered from Porsche the paint that they use on the new GT3 RS. This paint is a Dupont paint and is over $800/quart!

Everything in the car is either new or rebuilt.

The engine had a top-end rebuild with new valves, carrera chain tensioners, and any other modern upgrade. The transmission was opened up, all the gears were checked and new synchros were installed. All the shift linkage was refurbished and a Wevo shifter was installed. The suspension was replaced with a complete Elephant Suspension system. This includes all new bushings and shocks. It is tuned for street use so that you won’t get beat up on long rides, but it handles the twistys very nicely! Finally, the Air Condition was updated so that it blows cold air for those long and hot drives.

Cosmetically, the interior was completely removed and an RS style interior was installed. This included: RS Carpet kit, new Porsche headliner, RSA door panels, new dash, custom embroidered vintage style seats based on a 1970’s Sheel, hidden underdash speakers, hidden MP3/CD/Ipod stereo, 1970 vintage Omega dash stop watch, RS style vintage B-Roll hoop, custom Coco floor mats, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel with race style hub adapter in Ferrari Black crinkle coat, and rebuilt gauges…everything works great!

On the outside, we installed vintage-style Cibie rallye lights as well as glass French yellow lens H4 headlights. An early style rear-fog light was installed as well. The stock bumpers, deck lid and rocker panels were removed and IROC style bumpers and duck tail were fitted nicely. We found a very nice set of period-correct BBS RS wheels and installed them with brand new BF Goodrich tires. The stock mirrors were removed and ’74 Carrera mirrors were installed. Custom LED license plate lights were installed to maintain that clean look. We also added RS style rubber hood and trunk latches.

We had the heat exchangers and muffler ceramic coated in a Ferrari gray color. We also added sport tips to the muffler as well as hollowed it out for a nicer lower sound. It’s not too loud…just right! To give the engine an earlier look, we powder coated the fan and shroud to match the livery colors as well as added crinkle coat black paint to the unique airbox. Finally, we added a vintage style LeMans light on the roof to give the car the right look.

Basically, anything that needed to be fixed or replaced was (which was almost everything).

So, what you end up with is a very quick and fun to drive car that you can also roll up the windows, crank the A/C, and listen to some music and just enjoy the ride.

Recently, 911 & Porsche World magazine did a feature article on the car, which should hit the news stands within the next 6 months.

In April of this year, we took the car on the last of the No Frills Iron Bottom Rallye as a shake down to see what the car needed. The car drove fantastically. The handling was surprisingly nimble and tight through the back roads while also soft enough on the freeway to make the 1,000 miles very enjoyable. This kind of car is a must for the enthusiast who likes to drive and participate in PCA or R Gruppe type drives and rallyes.
