Many automotive authorities including Keith Martin of Sports Car Market have discussed how the ’74 Euro Carreras are hidden collectibles. These are undervalued special cars.
These cars were essentially a 1973 Porsche RS with some different bumpers and different seats. Other than that, they were exactly the same. However, they were never imported to the U.S. due to new emission standards. These are not the same cars that were delivered to the U.S.. Instead, they came with the same engine (911/83 2.7 MFI 210hp) that came in the ’73 RS. And, all the other mechanicals including transmission, suspension, and brakes were directly from the ’73 RS parts bin. The wheels are correct RS Fuchs with 7x15 in front and 8x15 in the rear.
With the same weight and horsepower as well as a low production number of 1,026 coupes, the 1974 Euro Carrera is virtually the same car as the coveted ’73 RS…except; it is less than 1/3 of the price!
This is a very special car with over $60,000 recently invested to bring this car up to a very nice street concours level. This is a driver’s car!
Recently, over $40,000 was spent at Hergesheimer Motorsports on the mechanicals. The engine was completely rebuilt (both top and bottom end) and nothing but the best components were used. All Porsche parts were used except they used Andial 2.9 pistons as well as Carillo rods. Also, all RSR suspension components replaced the original suspension. This is one of the tightest and fastest early cars I’ve driven.
With the help of TRE Motorsports, the cosmetics were restored while preserving any original parts. There was some minor rust in the front fenders as well as the front pan, which was carefully removed and properly welded and fixed. Also, a new dash, headliner, rear parcel shelf, recovered original steering wheel, and windshield was installed. The seats are original with one small tear on the driver seat, which was fixed with a new panel while preserving the originality. The carpet shows some fading but is original with no tears. The door panels are in very good shape for being nearly 35 years old. Finally, the car was completely repainted its original Grand Prix White and Al Reed restored the original Fuchs to their correct RS finish. This car is stunning!
We have all the receipts from the restoration as well as the certificate of authenticity, new NOS keys, and the original books.
