Polishing by numbers

Post by mycar »

Slow day at the workshop today, so I thought I`d treat my engine grill to a bit of a polish.
It`s tarnished over the winter and it`s impossible to get my stumpy fingers in between the blades, so I took it off and dismantled it.

I layed my stall out on the bench, mindful to keep everything in order and polished away merrily until everything was mixed up and I`d lost track of what went where :?

But lo, 40 years ago in a factory in Germany, Dr. Porsche had taken account of the fact that in the distant future, some Englisch doofus was bound to get confused and ordered each blade to be numbered !

Just look at that.... And the slotted holes to take the rods, must be stamped, why`d they do that then?

Anyway with that, everything went back together perfectly, home in time for tea.

I know it`s not engine rebuilding, but pleasing nontheless :)

If you're stuck for something to do Mike, I might know someone that might be able to help you move on from polishing as it were   - how about cam timing and a pint :drunken:

Nice work

FYI all grille bars are numbered. The later ones are numbered down the RHS which you can see with the grille in situ (on the sides of the bars nearest the back window).

Regards
Mike
