Replica Chassis

I m looking to build a M&W speedster, but dont have the room for the dirty bit, the stripping of a Beetle donor, if anyone has a rolling chassis laying around (pre 72, pre 60 even better) or anyone's interested in retoring and supplying a shortened rolling pan for a few bob (engine not required) please get in touch.

I'm in much the same situation myself.
Chesil wil supply a shortened chassis, but they ain't cheap (prices on the website)

Try John VW (he's the mad guy who was in the papers a few years ago when he changed his name by deed pole to Mr. Volkswagen) at Volkswagenwerk in Dorset.
The number I have for him is 01300 321351.

I tried John at Volkswagenwerk. He's sold his business and is not doing any more chassis work.
Shame really, sounds like there's a bit of a niche in the market for this sort of work at reasonable prices.

John had been recommended to me as well by Barrie Martin, so thats me stuffed for the moment, Barrie did say he had a few other people in mind, I ll let you know how it progresses.

try a buggy specialist, most VW based buggies have to have the chassis shortened.

All just to let you know John's still out there and working, I spoke to him today and definitely still in business at Volkswagenwerks, a one man band now which seems to suit what he wants to do, but really nice guy, and very informed with what you can and can t do with a Beetle chassis, and what can be achieved. Needless to say, he's now on the case with regards to my build, including some pretty trick suspension and braking ideas, which if alls goes well with the build scheme I m going to need!

I was very happy with the chassis he did for me in 2000 (ish)

One of the most approachable easy going people I ve spoken to, and knows his stuff. And comparing his pricing to say Pilgrims chassis service he's a bargain..

Hmm, interesting considering he told me he'd sold the business on, and wouldn't be doing any more chassis work.
He said he only had 1 chassis left and wouldn't be doing any more, and that he'd sold the jigs he uses to the new guy.
I agree that he was very approachable and pleasant when I spoke to him. It just seems a shame that he's giving some people a different response to the one he gave me, and he wasn't prepared to do my chassis work. Maybe I just have a way with people
I'm swaying towards a Chesil chassis. They may be expensive, but at least they want to do the work and are honest about what they do or don't offfer.

I can clearly only speak as I find, but good luck which ever route you take..Keep in touch and let me know how the project goes, sure we're going to be facing similar problems soon..James
