You can find a US test from 1965 over here:
http://content.us.porsche-clubs.porsche ... 2B005DDF0D
If you navigate on the left hand side, you'll find some more tests and a lot of brochure material. (I know it's in dutch, sorry for that.)

Looks like very detailed tests. Shame I can't read Dutch
Looking at the points scored in the 2.2S test could you translate the meaning under the summary heading of Motor ( engine I presume  )
Geluidsniveau scored just 4.5
and Prestaties scored 9+
Thanks

Post by richkaz »

 Dont all rush at once to translate !

Iv'e just enrolled in the world famous ' Teach yourself Double Dutch in twenty minutes ' school. I can now translate the outline conclusions of the 911 2.2S test.

Marks out of ten

MOTOR

Noise levels 4.5
Torque 6.5
Cold start 8.5
Performance 9.0+

TRANSMISSION

Operation 7.5
synchromesh 6.5
noise 4.5
clutch 7.5

QUALITY

Irradiation 9.0 8)
Thrills 8.5 :bom:
Forestry Legislation 8.5 :
Value 8.5
Decay 7.0

INTERIOR

View 7.0
Boot 5.0
Finish 8.0
Driving experience 9.0 8)

CONCLUSION

This is naturally an unreasonably expensive motor. Few performance cars can compare with it and its striking at the new Mercedes 350SL and Alfa Romeo Montreal.
A car of this price and performance needs a lot of petrol but we will gladly have one over here mate.
But our logic and intuition says not half of us would want to buy one .

Richkaz Dutch to English translations are now available for a limited introductory price of just £ 40.00 per paragraph ( plus vat.)

Many thanks for your kind offer Bert, but I was just interested in the test conclusion and I think I have sussed the general meaning. It goes something like
" Half of us wouldn't buy this car because its too expensive, thirsty and noisy but we do like the performace "

Compare the max speed ( 136.5 MPH ) and 0 -50 MPH ( 5.6 sec. )acceleration of the 2.0 S in the Motor road test results
from 1967 -69. Remember the 911 has just 2.0 litres

What a great 'sticky' this is, I love reading back through these tests. Thanks RichKaz and MRG!

There was also a great Ferrari/Porsche test in Car about 1974? But it was a 308 against the 911. Can't remember if it was an 's' or an IB car?

Any chance you could fiind that one RichKaz, you've come up trumps with all the others! 8)

Cheers,

Steve. :)

Hi Steve.
If it was a 74 impact bumper test I'm afraid I wouldn't keep it.
I find it fascinating how 'fashion' and hype can change peoples perception of things.
Comparative tests by experienced road testers are usually hype free and give a realistic appraisal of the cars merits when new.
If the testers could have looked 35 years into the future they would probably have been shocked at future desirability and values.
Is a 2.7RS really 10 times better than a Lamborghini Urraco ?Maybe 10 times more desirable for whatever reason in todays market
but according to the contempory test they were pretty well equally desirable.
The Dino Ferrari and 911S seemed well matched at the time of the test but the Dino is now twice as desirable ?
Its a funny old world

That is outstanding!

One of the best recordings I have heard of engine sound on an early 911.
