aaarrrghhhhhhhh!!! (It was the easy fix! :))

Just wanted to vent a bit.
11:45 last night I connected the gearshift back up.
11:46 last night I realised that the shift rod was located incorrectly in the box.
11:47 Teddy came out of the pram.
Ar*e
It's all coming out again then...
Note to self: Always check the gearshift works before putting it all (every last nut and bolt...) back together.

Hey Gary,
Man I am feeling for you buddy... I have lost count of the time I have put something back together forgetting that one component which will mean I have do do the job again from scratch. It happens.. damn its a pain though.
Still look at the bright side... which for the moment escapes me as it seems you have to do the job again.
Err... least you have a big garage you can work in... yeah thats right. Warm and cosy.

But if you pull the shift rod out, could you measure it for me? Please
A photo of the ends and the whole thing would help me as well.
This is assuming your car has a 915 gearbox and shift rod.

Think i can join in with you on this one, took me nearly 3 hours to get home last night, eventually arrived on the back of an RAC wagon. Starter motor decided to either not dis-engage when I left work of shorted out and decided to try and start the engine whilst travelling down the M1. Result one cooked starter motor, battery and whatever damage to the wiring and flywheel.
I'm not happy either

It was that cold in the layby my watch stopped! I didn't sit in the car as its aR*e was hanging onto an unlit section of the dual carriageway/slip road. Had to wait for two recovery vehicles to arrive so one could block a lane off whilst the other loaded the car, it was alittle bit hairy.

Just had a thought....
If I drop the shift rod support cover plate off the bottom of the box then I might be able to realign things...
Chance is slim. But hey worth a shot.
