2008 DDK Annual Charity

Just to tie things together, here's the link to the 2007 thread, which has the total raised for that year:

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... c&start=30

And working back, here's the thread with the final total for 2006:

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... 34&start=0

O.K. folks, it's that time of the year again, so we need to decide three things:

1) Shall we have another annual charity?
2) Who shall run it?
3) which charity shall it be?

I'm obviously keen that we carry on with the notion of the annual DDK charity, and am happy to carry on as general oversee'er and liason between us and the chosen cause.

Finally, personally, I'd be delighted if we remained with Macmillan: with gift aid we have raised well over £12,000 for them in a couple of years (plus I know some members have added their own contributions via individual fundraising as well). My personal feeling is that it would be great if we can continue to build our relationship with them, and whilst there are many good causes out there, Macmillan do seem to have assisted a number of our member's families.

Likewise - I'd keep with it, a worthy cause which tocuhes most of us at some point in our lives.

I'm in favour of sticking with MacMillan too.

A big thanks to Barry for overseeing this (& being a major fundraiser).

Although my tumour has been removed and chemotherapy was, seemingly, successful, I still need regular check up and would therefore support Macmillan Cancer Support as the DDK charity. But then I would, wouldn't I!

To update the membership...

Carolyn and I are in the throes of repeating our marathon driving tasks in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and have, so far, raised just over £600...with a target of £2000 by 22 April 2008 (the day I qualify as an OAP! ). That's just a couple of days before we set off for Cornwall in our 1966 912 when we will have to declare to the Cape to Cape organizers what our total amount is.

Last year on the 2007 Tour we raised £1700...with help from a number of DDK supporters.

This year we will be heading for Cap Ferret, near Bordeaux, via such little known race courses as Le Mans

And displaying our DDK badge...

Details of the Tour can be read on http://www.pr4motorsport.com/macmillan.htm.

On line donations can be made on http://www.justgiving.com/c2c5.

We've paid the entry fee (that's our contribution) and every penny raised goes to the charity. All expenses come out of our meagre pockets!

Hi Folks, sorry this has been so slow getting going ... it's been rather busy the last eight weeks or so (to put it mildly), and I'm in the process of catching up.

Firstly, there will be a final, final total for 2007 posted soon (it went up a little from the last post).

Second: I can confirm that we are happy to continue our support for out friends at Macmillan, and indeed I have already received our first donation of the year; again, I'll start a running total here sometime this week.

Thirdly: At some point I'll ask for an independant (of me) DDK'er to look over the records for 2007, and report back here that everything tallies, and that our thank-you letters confirm all of the donated amounts.

Forthly: just a re-cap on donations. Two methods as far as we're concerned:

1) Write a cheque out to 'Macmillan Cancer Support', send it to me here with your full name and home address. I then record it, write out a Gift-Aid form, and forward the cheque and G/A form along to the nice folk at my local office. They then take it from there. This is the method that most of the donors have used. If you need my address, just P.M. me.

2) Write directly to your local Macmillan branch, who will point you to the easiest way of getting a gift-aid form. Fill this out (if you want to G/A of course) and sent the donation and form to your local branch. Ideally also mail me (or post on this thread) what's been donated and why (help from other member, parts swap etc). I can then add it to our DDK total.

Obviously there are cases where either the donor, or the reason for the donation are to be kept outside of the public forum. Of course that's absolutely fine, and I'll simply list it as 'name witheld', or leave the reason for donation blank

I think that's everything for now, other than to say as soon as I get my scanner running again, I'll scan the thank-you letters, and post them up. Thinking about it, I could probably get a good enough picture of them: I'll give that a try.

Thank you once again for your support :) .

Update on where we're at currently:

James (58A-71E) Donation for parts (Alan U.K.? Or Butzi? ) £10
Keith (Veryporky) Dontation for parts (David PPP) £25
Paul (Ferry Man) T-shirts, 1st installment (Many DDK donors!) £1150
Mick Cliff £25

Current total therefore is already £1210.00p ! That's a fantastic start, and we've got plenty more planned for the year :P .
