tyre profiles.. what are you using?

Post by vwretrosteve »

i am having trouble working out the best tyre profile and brand to suit my early 911 on 6x15 fuchs.
the car is lowered a bit,and asthetically i dont really wish to over tyre it,nor do i wish to have a typical ultra low profile tyre either. (it was on 14"'s ..hence the connundrum)
the car has a re worked 3.2 motor and does get hustled a bit

i would be interested to hear what tyres people are using, and hopefully i can make an informed descision from information received .

thanks

195/65 x 15 front
205/60 x 15 rear

Same (almost) overall diameters as 'original' 185/70 x 15 but much more choice of manufacturers and more 'cost effective' imho

I was at the recent Autosport show, and met Pirelli. Pirelli showed their P7 and P6/6000 tyres. They noted that the P7 is better for performance vehicles than the P6 (as P7 has a sold rib in the tread which P6 does not have).

On my 15 x 6 fuchs, I have 196/65x65 all around. They work more than well. With more grunt, I think you can get 205/60 x 15 on the rear wheels without rubbing (but have not tried this combo).

Perhaps others can give us some advise.

205/60/15 Bridgestone potenza re720 front and rear. Very pleased with this tyre, but unfortunately Bridgestone decided to discontinue them.
