Spring 914 meeting - now Cosford !

Post by Robster »

Having seen the excellent number of new and existing 914'ers joining the forum, I think it would be a great idea to have a meeting to see just how many cars we can get out.

I was thinking of a Saturday or Sunday meeting some time in spring (March).

It would be great to put names to faces and check the cars out. I was thinking of Donnington as the museum is superb, there is plenty of parking and it's fairly central, and you can get a good brew.

Maybe if we get organised, we can maybe get a couple of cruises together (eg London and south region cruise up etc)

Hands up who is up for this? Don't worry if your car is in bits - come anyway. You never know it might inspire you to finish your project or you may meet someone who has some elusive parts you need.

We did something similar a couple of years ago and managed to get 14 cars out on a horrible wet and windswept winter day.

Any takers?

kind regards
Rob

Hey Rob,
I would prefer April as I won't be taxing the Mossmobile until the 1st.

For info, regarding your old car (my new car!) I now have all the heating parts, trial fitted them last weekend (need some new exhaust studs), waiting for the gear linkage bushes to arrive from Pelican, have done a bit of an upgrade (retrim) on the interior, completely waxoiled the whole car and fixed the rust in the inner rear wing. Would love to show it off.

A few us will be in Essen for Technoclassica last weekend in March .
I already have something arranged for w/e 8th/9th March.
Apart from those weekends i'm always up for a day out .
Is Cosford , near Telford too far for you Rob , just as an alternative to Donny ?

I'll do me best to be there, always up for a drive, but you'll appreciate we have to do a couple of hours each way before we're on the "...it's a good central location...." radar screen. Consequently would prefer Telford rather than Donnington, if that counts..
As I shall by then be sporting my S/S fab fabrication by Rich Thomas of a new Zorst, I'd love an excuse to travel North/East/West in Old Yeller. Blow some cobwebs!!

as Donington Parks about 5 mins drive from my door it wuld be rude not to come along.

BTW the cafe is no longer there. (when i last visited Nov 07) so its coffee at the services, local pub or my house.

Hi all,

thanks for the response. (Jon, looking forward to seeing my old car again - I still miss it! Sounds like you are getting it just how you want it)

April sounds good - what dates are OK?

Anywhere with coffee sounds ok to me. I'm not bothered how far North it is so long as we don't meet too early to allow us southerners to get there!

Any other takers out there? I make that 5 cars so far...

I'll go down as a possible for now Rob.

I've been looking around for a while for something "sensible" to replace the Alfa with. Decided a late mk IV Golf Gti would be ideal. Unfortunately "sensible" went completely out of the window when I bought a mk IV R32

It's going to take me a couple of months to repay back into the 914 2008 repair fund  But I think the new toy will make the wait worthwhile

As an alternative to Donnington, what about a visit to Coventry Transport museum. Not motorsport but interesting enough for a little jolly. Could tie it in with a visit to the Jaguar Heritage centre which isn't that far away or this place:

Or back to Gaydon - it should be open this time
