Luckily I have plenty of protected original colour under the black and inside the cabin which I will be able to sample from when the time comes.

I hope our two cars meet up sometime. I look forward to it.

That's my experience - the colour changes with the weather, let alone photographically! Good that you have some original paint to match up with... when the time comes!

Our cars were metres apart at CLM one year but afaik our paths didn't cross. It would be great to get them side by side - before or after the new paint :)

Happy 10th Birthday Mike. I feel as I've know you all my life :) Betsy is looking lovely with the Fuchs back on. Just a shame you didn't get a professional photographer to take the new pictures by the harbour :)

Excellent to see the Fuchs are back in place and very glad that you're still the owner of that fine car, somehow it wouldn't be right if your didn't keep her

Are those my old nuts that you refurbished...?...glad they were of some service

Look forward to seeing it again soon

Best
Jonathan

I thought I would add a link to the duck tailing thread as it contains a lot of the RS's early history,

Outside the first owners house in Palermo

And outside the second owners house,

And outside the old dealership of Armando Floridia where it all began

So had the car already been repainted by this time, or would it have been in it's original colour then?

Pretty sure the RS was delivered new in chartreuse in nov 73 to the first address and by jan 74 at the second address it was black.

Presumably you had no luck tracing the first or second owner, or their relatives, for pictures of it in the original colour?

Mike

This was all done in 2007 by Andrea on my behalf. The first owner was phoned a few times but no contact was made. The second owner which turned out to be Alfonso Merendino (a fact I did not know in 2007) died in 1998 and, what I thought was the second owner at the time, spoke with Andrea on the phone for several minutes. She turned out to be the sister of the actual owner and a three way conversation with him and Andrea revealed that the car was always black. They had no photos, history or invoices for the RS.

I must point out that Andrea had reservations about phoning elderly Sicilian former owners of an RS. The conversation might start "Hi, I am phoning you about a Porsche Carrera RS you used to own in 1973 and I'd like to ask you a few questions about it............. " He was quite ready for the reply "I can't remember anything about that" being Sicily! it was quite good to get the information about the car colour at least.

When I was there in June there was so much to pack in over 5 days that I prioritized the tasks and, as I don't speak Italian, felt that turning up at a strangers door trying to explain why I was there would be tricky and unproductive without an interpreter. The owners were all in their 80's in 2007 so there was also the chance they might not be in good health or worse. I concentrated on the visits to the old dealership and driving the Madonie circuit, the pits, Cerda, Collesano, museums, enjoying some Sicilian culture and so on. But there's always next year!....

Mike

But still no inclination to take it back to it's original colour?
