Hi Miggs Matching numbers RS LHD ex Italy mine for six months imported last year Ive been searching for a long long time.................its been lowered too far handles poorly need advice from you guys on raising rear and front susp. and all this business about corner balancing and in which order to do it . cheers

It doesn't look too low to me. Are you getting bump steer?

Hi Nick Yes a little bump steer and you may notice that the tyres are much lower profile than original. Cant help thinking original set up ( or as near original 65s as you can get now) would be better. Just doesn't feel good on cornering too much understeer. checked alignment camber angle and toe in with this lower profile and all are within tolerance. Where to go next? thanks

Absoloutely, grew up in Glasgow but have been darn sarf for the last 10 years - now a member of the East Anglian chapter of DDK!

how far from the border are you?

I'm thinking of organising a DDK tour based around the Yorkshire Dales (North) for next year, so we should have some DDK members traveling up North.

Very nice car. Fellow DDk member, Mike Blow, just lives across the border from you in Cumbria and sometime works in Southern Scotland. May be you could meet up. I'm a bit farther off in sunny Belgium. Shame.

Well, it's nearly 10 years since my first post and the 10 year anniversary of owning the RS.
The car was a June 1st 1973 build so it will also be 40 years old soon too.
I passed my driving test 6 days after she rolled off the production line and I had a picture of a White/red RS on my bedroom wall. Dreams do come true.

I ditched the low profile tyres soon after the pics above and went with Avons in the original sizes ever since. For a some years now (way too long) I have been running a 'winter' set of wheels and started refurbishing an early pair of 7's (dated 4/73 matching pair) and 8's (dated 5/73 matching pair). Most of you will know the car like this,



To cut a very long story short,

The original three pronged Fuchs were sent for refurb along with the centre caps to original RS finish.
A good friend gave up his tedious HGV job and bought a mobile tyre fitting franchise. We had a long chat about the 'new' Fuchs and he agreed to tackle the tyre fitting. Brave boy!
He did a fantastic job. I had given the front surface a coat of Gibbs and he used a new applicator to mount each tyre. He lined up the 'A' of Avon with the valve and I fitted the point of the centre shield with the valve on each wheel. He practises on an old 8 inch Fuch with different valves because he said he felt a neater valve could be made to work. He settled on a motorbike valve which I think looks much neater. I then gave the wheels two complete applications of Gibbs front and back, refurbed some black wheel nuts to 'as new' and bolted them all on today. David charged me £7.50 a wheel so needless to say he gets all my tyre work now. And all at my door!

Hope you like the results (Andy will critique the wheels in one respect I know) so she is back to 'normal' for her anniversary year.

Does your tyre fitter live locally?

Question is will she be chartreuse for her 50th birthday?
