Ride height

Hi,
I have now finally completed the overhaul of my suspension and have set the ride height to the Haynes manual spec.
There seems to be a lot of people say the standard ride height is Front 25 1/2 and rear 25 inches to the wheel arches. This is about 1 inch lower than my car.
Which is correct?
The tyres are 185/60 x 15.

Hi
The Porsche spec book dosnt give ride height from the wheel arch lip, the spec book for your car will give you the correct settings for ride height and these are a relation between torsion bar centre to floor and wheel centre to floor.

but .... assuming your bodywork is 'even' , then it is generally accepted that standard euro height suspesnion is 25.5 fr, 25 rear ( measured through the centre of the wheel).
USA height was higher.

Rear
Torsion bar centre 12mm (plus or minus 5mm) above rear wheel centre
Front
Torsion bar centre 108mm (plus or minus 5mm) below front wheel centre
With standard wheels and tyres with recommended pressures, car unladen.

So why does this end up with the front wheel arch being 26.5 and the rear 26? Has anyone got both measurement methods to match?

Because of the different profile of the arch front and rear. Even with what apparently seems to be a higher front end I can assure you it is not. The car still has a level or slightly nose down profile with these settings. It's the arches that are different.

1/2" higher at the front translate to a slight forward rake of the car. As Mike says, if you look at the side profile of a car you will see the front arch is slightly higher than the rear

I have just measured the front of mine using the 'proper' method ...
Front
Torsion bar centre 157mm (very very approx ) below front wheel centre
So my car is about 50 mm lower than recommended at the front

Which is as near as dammit 2 inches so by the stick method you should be 23 and a half inches at the front but you said you were 24 and a quarter?? Are you sure you are not a tad lower than you think?

I'm 24 3/4 at the front & 24 ish at the back. ( measured at the same time)
The other measurements are :
wheel centre : 300mm
torsion bar centre : 143mm
difference = 157mm
BUT my measurements in this case are not that accurate as it was all done by eye.
BUT even in a worst case scenario of me being in accurate by 10 mm overall, its still quite low

To be dead accurate you should really do this immediately after one of your spirited runs through the Dales. Have the garage door open your measuring and adjusting gear at the ready and one of your famous bags of fertilizer ready to pop into the drivers seat..............but then you are not going racing so I suppose this would be overkill.

oh and take the fuel gauge reading and keep your jack, tools and camping gear in the front.......we want it dead on for CLM
