Hello,
does anybody KNOW the situation with the Bosch 050 Distributor. I get the impression from a couple of notices on this forum and a few parts suppliers, that they are out of production?

However, one supplier gave me the impression that they may just be temporarily out of production, with the manufacturer producing more when the demand becomes high enough.

The thing is I need/want a new distributor and I would like the best one. I don't want to buy a 009 only to find out in a couple of weeks that I could have found a 050 somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. am I correct in assuming that the Bosch 050 is the best for a 356c?

I have a really nice used one for £75

I'll definitely bear that in mind! I have a couple of options left to exhaust first.

What kind of condition is it in?

I was under the impression that production has stopped.

There are other options in the pipeline I believe.

Also there is a copmpany in the States called Gear Head Co. run by Don Marks who will rebuild your original Dizzy to the factory spec which will have the correct advance curve for your car and the petrol available today, something a stock 050 will not provide.

Don't fit an 009...

Transend have 050's in stock I think, if you can't get a deal together.

the 050 is done, dead, finito, aufweidesehen, tschuse, bis bald, arive delcci, syonara (sorry my spelling is attrocious but you get the idea.. they dont make em anymore!)

but there is good news...

will pringle of classic and speed parts, and john benton, so cal 912 guru and squirl killer (dont ask...) have come up with somthing thats the best thing since sliced bread


the rsr 0012 distributor. this dizzy features a full 30 degrees advance with a curve desiogned specifically for a 356/912 engine. timed just like the factory intended, statically at 2-4 deg btdc and max advance comes around 2500 rpm. each unit is tested and the curve is maped before it is sold (and comes with said map),. when john thronton, owner of the famous 912R tried it out, he was very impressed. everyone else whose gotten one is very impressed.

cost.. $199.00 a bit steep for me at this time.. (just dropped $1500 in new front end.), and a new dizy is the last thing i need right now since im running a year old 050.. but this thing is on my wish list.

when i called up will last week to get tune up stuff, i asked him about the details on this bad boy... what is it? an 009 body, thats been raped and pillaged, and filled back up with all the goodies to get it to work like the 031. pretty technical stuff.. i dont know how they did it (what they did exactly i should say..) but it sounds very impressive.

it fits the same condensor and points as an 009 and 050 as well... same goes for pertronix.

you could always try a mallory dizzy. you can adjust the amount of advance and lock it out so it's all in by 2500rpm if required. a nice touch if you like 'have-a-go- tuning!

no.. more like an 031 than 050

I just got notice from CB Performance, which used to carry them for only about $75.00, that they are no longer available from Bosch a nd that they no longer have any in stock, bummer!

Anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone used the Mallory on the 356/912 powerplant?
