just received the following e-mail from the people who run callander classic show in scotland.
would any DDKers be interested in incorperating this into a DDK week-end away ? around 23rd-24th August 2008

WE ARE ON THE MOVE to introduce a new style of event and one that
nothing similar has ever been staged in Scotland before. The
Callander Classic Weekend will be absorbed into an all new
international motoring heritage event The Culzean Autoclassica. It
will take place at Culzean Castle Ayrshire, a superb venue, on the
same weekend as the Callander Classic has been held for twenty five
years, the last full weekend in August and coinciding with the
English August Bank Holiday. Next year this will be the 23rd 24th
August. It will have a completely new image but will still retain our
traditional friendly atmosphere. All those of you who have been
coming to Doune and Callander are invited to attend "The Event for
Enthusiasts run by Enthusiasts".

Some of you will already be aware we are having a launch of the
Culzean Autoclassica on Sunday the 23rd September and some activities
also taking place on the Saturday. Club members and individual owners
are invited to attend and find out all about this new event and take
advantage of the special Guest Passes costing just £2 for car and
passengers.
You will need to enter using one of the forms attached for this.

If you haven't already entered we have held open the closing date and
if you are very quick you still have just enough time to enter. By
doing so you will automatically be registered on the list of invited
Clubs/guests for next year's major first Culzean Autoclassica.

sorry i thought that thread was just for this years trial/promotional week-end on 23rd sept, isn't it?

i was trying to see if ayone up for starting to add next years event into the DDK calander and make it into a small trip away.

Could be incorperated into a DDK long weekend if you wish. Different part of Scotland to this year's trip but still some nice driving roads. I'm sure Brendan and I could put something together.

Well guys and girls the sun shone for us and there was a great turn out for what was supposed to be a low key launch day. The event is now scheduled for the weekend 23rd/24th August 2008. As Mike has already said it could be the focus of a very nice Southern Scottish run. Of course a big thank you to Mike for letting me take my '67S out for the day

i sent off my application for entry tickets and also to enter the 356 in the concours a couple of months ago and hve heard nothing..?

is this normal. or do i need to start chasing the organisers ??

i am really looking forward to this event. although i find all the information and litrature for this event very confusing.

would like to take part in several of the events advertised but not sure when they happen, if they clash or if they are an extra charge or have to be booked in advance?

Ok, the CCHMSC is organising the 2 day rally around this event, with details here.

It is an event that caters for not only the balls-out classic racers in minis and midgets (yes you will be beaten by them), but also the folks who just want to do a bit more than park up and sit in a folding chair for the day, without breaking your car in the process. As far as I can tell, the only requirement is that you are a member of the CCHMSC (a fiver). No race licences, roll cages, helmets or funny blue shoes required! Its as hard on the car as you want it to be..although this is a) quite a long event(with a night section) and b) the surface at turnberry race circuit at least is likely to be pretty bumpy in places (like track-day airfields).

Noise permitting (which actually might be a problem for me - I thinl it is a 102 db limit), I am hoping to do this event in the 356, and it would be cool to 'compete' with some other DDK-ers. As long as there were just a small number of us, it would be fine (I am awaiting confirmation of this, though).

Anyone fancy it (Helen, Hot66, JohnM, Vix?)- there was some interest when I posted about the last CCHMSC event I did.

I heard back from the organiser, by the way, who is happy to have another old porsche or 2, but says the limit to the whole event is 30 cars, as it is a new event and they want to see how it goes first. So its going to fill up quite quickly..I'm going to go ahead and apply today.

The stages will be either tarmac or 'loose but not too bumpy' - and the night stage is a 48 mile run basically aimed at beginners. Better get my rally giants on. He says they also they wont be too worried about noise, as there will be racecars running in the grounds a la goodwood. Should be fun!

Dammit! My navigator has just sold his house (what property crisis?) and now cant make the weekend.

As outlined above I have now organised the DDK stand at this event. The entry for the following people/cars is in and it reflects all those people who got in touch with me.

and Helen who has sent in her own entry but included on the DDK stand as requested.

All entries are paid for general display including street concours and includes two adults the car and any small children at £6 per vehicle. I have put all our names down for the music night (free) on the Sat night followed by BBQ at my place 2 miles away for those who wish to chance my cooking skills. Anyone who has/will be going to the event who has not got in touch with me for the DDK stand PLEASE make yourself known as you are more than welcome to come round to my place for food. I also have a large plastic bottle of cider we can share There is ample room to leave about 7 cars safely at my place and I have a taxi arranged back to your billet if required. Everyone welcome (hope the weather is kind )

For those of you wishing to do your own thing there is a variety of eating places both at the venue and close by but be warned they will be very busy. I would book now. If you want recommendations for restaurants, British Chinease Indian Italian please get in touch. I can give you phone numbers etc of good places.

If any of you would like to enter any more of the events you should contact the organiser.

I am assuming all entry tickets will be sent to me but I will let you know asap.
