Newest Oil formulations lack sufficient Zn & P for airco

Post by shambly »

As most here won't visit VW Type IV sites I thought i'd draw attention to this as it is equally relevant to aircooled Porsche engines.

Aircooledtechnology and LN engineering have just released an oil bulletin warning about use of some of the latest oil formulations, and LN have updated the oil section on their website.

"Many Porsche repair shops have acknowledged that these newest SM and CJ-4 motor oils are not sufficient for protecting any Porsche engine."

Whilst many of these oils are not readily available in the UK, Mobile 1 mx4t motorcycle oil is (renamed Mobile 1 racing 4T) and i'm running the 15w50 version in my Type IV.

Oil

We are using and supplying Joe Gibbs Racing Oil.

This oil is branded as 'not suitable for Highway use' as it doesn't comply with current API regultions in terms of additive levels.

These oils have been developed for use in high performance race engines and run high additive levels. The have been extensively tested by Mike Brunn Racing in the States with positive results.

Various viscosities are available.
