The car in the background there in Jon's picture is 0020 which was one of the 'werks' cars entered for the 1973 Targa Florio
and came 3rd driven by Leo Kinnunen and Claude Haldi with the race number 9. Most will recognise it though like this, as the
factory in their wisdom decided to do it up like the winning number 8 car which is in private hands.
Fortunately over the past few years as people including myself have lobbied the factory to return it to it's original look, it's slowly
morphed back to an approximation of what it looked like in the race. They took off the race number 8 a couple of years ago, it
was left blank, and then last year it appeared with it's orange and blue roof for the first time. Jon's picture shows it now with it's
original race number 9 on which we haven't seen before.
While it's great that it's going to returned to look as it originally was, it's sad that in pretending it was the winning car it lost so
many important parts, the rear arches, (here we go again) were fantastic, just riveted on and the only ones like it, and for the 73
Targa Florio it wore a mocked up Mary Stuart tail, literally taped on winglets extending out from the ducktail, it would be great if
they could re-create them if it does go to Sicily this year.
The other thing it's lost if you look closely is the 72 oil filler flap in the rear wing, it's disappointing to me that they haven't put that
back in, pretty easy to do and so important from an historical point of view.
But as I said the good news is 'our' car has finally been allowed in and should be going to Sicily in October, and if the rumours are
right and the winning number 8 and the Museum number 9 cars are there how fantastic will that be! Now just the small matter of
getting the organisers to give us the entry number 107........
