converting a 912 engine to a 911 engine

im sure this has been covered before but i was wondering
what would be involved?
what sort of engine size could i get away with?
what sort of budget would it be?
has amyone done this before
can anyone recomend someone to do it?
my car is a 67 912, i do want a 911 for the power but im tempted to save my 12 engine and stick a 911 engine in as im too fond of the car to sell it.
any thaughts

go for a hot VW type 1 engine, you get a big enough BHP increase for reasonable outlay. It'll will be a virtually bolt straight in affair and keep the 912 lightness/balance/handling. 120+bhp is pretty easy from a type 1 with the right knowledge/contacts

converting a 912 engine in to a 911 engine.. hmm well to start with you going to need a lot of metal and a welder...
you mean putting a 911 engine into a 912..?
I am 100% with you on this as I too have the dilema of not wanting to sell my 912 due to all the time and effort to get it to the stage it is at. So i want to increase the engine output. So I am building a hot 912 motor but it is costing me!! I ahve taken alot of short cuts and it still has cost me..£1250 in parts so far but it would have cost me £3000 + UK prices but having driven a 912 in the US that is as good as the engine I am building then I know what I have coming my way and I am happy to wait 118bhp-120 will make the car move along nice and keep up with the 911 boys on any runs down to France..
BUT
So should have I just got a type 4 motor and spent £2500 on and got 140bhp + or a second hand 911 motor for £2500+ and then there is all the converting work.. and costs.. Alan UK has done it i think he says not to bother.

Hello there.
I have never done this swop..but do know folk who have and its not sensible really.
For the cost of the conversion, you could easily buy a proper 911 for the difference in cost..
A converted 912 is never going to be worth as much as a 911, and may well be worth less than the original 912..
I am not fond of hot T1 motors either..a T4 is a much better proposition ..and keep safe the original 912 motor..they are not very strong if revved.....

I understand the desire for more power in your 12, however i don't think adding 2 cylinders is the answer. You can get up to 150 bhp out of your 4 pot....although it will cost you

. 130-140 bhp is possible for around £5k fully built, I am running a engine with 130 bhp and its great

. The improve weight distribution of the 12 over a 911 makes it a joy to drive.

at the end of the day its not about the fact that a converted car is worth less. it means more to me to keep my car as ive done so much work to it and have become attached.
ive had a look on ebay and found a longblock vw type 1 engine 4.4 litre with 220bhp!! for 1000 pounds. very tempting to get one built

do you mean 2.4 rather than 4.4lt How can they claim 220bhp for a long block? Power will wholely depend on what induction, exhaust, ignition, etc, etc that you install.
Post the ebay link so we can see.
1K will get you alot of type 1 built from scratch rather than an unkown ebay motor.
