Hi all, first time post so please be kind!
I've had 3 911's over the years (all air-cooled of course!) and currently thinking of having a replica ST/ RS made up. Trouble is the replica (horrid word, but you know what I mean) would take about 9 months to build, and I need some Porsche in the meantime...
So I'm considering getting a 356. Has anyone got any advice re Karmann Konnections please? They seem to have some interesting stock and at seemingly reasonable prices. Anyone dealt with them before or have any comments?
Also, and at the other end of the scale, I've spoken with one company about possibility of having a 356B Super 90 restored. It's a UK RHD "matching numbers" car. Can anyone point me in the right direction for what a truly top condition one of these would be worth please? I'd be going for a no-expense spared restoration, so it would be a top-end car when finished. I'm expecting prices to be higher for Super 90, but not sure what to expect. Obviously this restoration would take even longer than the ST/ RS, but it could be worth the wait...

Ritchie at KK does choose his 356s well and has been bringing into the country for longer than most. I've had a look at a few of the ones he has in stock - any in particular you're after?
A RHD Super 90 matching numbers car done well is going to be worth good money but chances are if the restoration is exactly that - a full on restoration it will surprise me if the value will exceed the expenditure by a great deal - of course that depends on the standard of the work and who is doing it.
Super 90s are desirable but 356Bs do seem to stick when for sale and certainly aren't fetching the moeny compared to the earlier As.
You could of course buy an honest criveable car and just enjoy it! I had some involvement with this car which is fitted with a S Engine (rebuilt), honest, usable lovely little car and a good price.

Thanks Bootsy - I've only looked on the web site, but do like the look of the red 356B (with previous work by Francis Tuthill) and the silver 356B - which I think was about £6k dearer? The red 356B looks like more fun though, and may be better suited to what I want to use it for - i.e., maximum smiles per mile! Do you know anything about it at all?

I agree that Ritchie is very careful with what he imports and sells and like Bootsy says he has been doing it for years. You could also try export 56 who also seem to have interesting cars (however I have had no dealings with them) or Paul at PR Services may have some leads on possible cars and has got cars for sale on occasion.
With regards to the Super 90, I wouldn't necessarily go for that car just because of the engine, you will hardly notice difference in power to the other engines. None of the 356s accelerated that quickly.
The Bs are the most common of 356s and because they don't have the purer shape of the earlier cars or the disc brakes of the Cs they seem to be less desirable. I still love them though!
If you are only going to keep the car for 9 months then I would just get a nice driver, use it and sell it on when you get the replica. If you want to keep it longer then you really need to decide which model you want and go searching.

Personally I love 356A's & pre-A's , they just look so right. Have a quick look around DDK & you will see a lot of very nice 356's owned by DDKers. Also have a look at some of the threads that detail the rust repairs on a 356

Not sure whether I am taking the cab or the coupe, it all depends if the coupe is ready in time!

Unfortunately the picture is wrong, being a B not an A, but its a rare beast reflected by the price! They have however recently told me that this is a break even price - as it was significantly worse than they, or I thought it was!!

Ritchie's a great guy and a good friend of mine - I've travelled to three 356 International events in Europe with him in various 356 hot rods he's built - top guy !
If you want a 356 version of a 911 ST I'm thinking of selling my 1958A coupe in GT/outlaw spec' it's got all the right bits - half roll cage, dual circuit brakes, speedster seats, alloy decklid, Duane Spencer engine etc etc - funnily enough I bought it via Ritchie ! ( don't want to do him out of business!) it's certainly a bit different and a bit hot !!!
