my speaker was shot in my car so i have just fitted a new one. I was unable to find one that was the original shape so i made a fitting plate. The old Blankpunt sound great especially with the ipod connected.

I obviously have a spare speaker so if anyone wants it I could make another fitting plate.

Good job.

I might be up for this as my speaker isn't great.

How much would you want for the speaker and excellent looking plate (assuming you've still got the pattern - and it fits a 1971 car?).

How did you rig the ipod to it and what's the technique for getting the speaker grill cover off?

Hi

I have plugged the ipod into the din socket on the rear of the radio, using a 3.5mm jack plug from the ipod earphone socket and a din socket into the rear of the radio. This puts the ipod into the pre amp of the radio so you can use the radio to adjust the volume.

Good work - How did you find the wiring for the Din socket. I did this using some info I found on a german radio website but it put 12v across my ipod output

Luckily at exactly the same time it stopped working due to a completely unrelated problem that was covered by warranty so apple replaced it

I was stupid not to check the voltage across the ipod plug first

John - fitting plate looks like an excellent solution - can I get one off you?

i was about to start on a similar project - not sure if my radio has a similar din socket but i'll find out. was thinking of running the 3,5 jack socket descretely through the arrow below. might be tricky to get it to sit firmly there though.

Hi, Red67, you could also use a chassis mount 3.5mm socket as a neat way of connecting the iPod through the dash panel, if you decide not to put it through the side of the glovebox.

i have a feeling a 60gb ipod with a dock may sit securely in the ashtray too, i'll have to see.

All very ingenious, these methods of getting music into the cockpit, I have to admit.

But am I alone in never using my radio?
It was only when we got to Calais, on the return leg of our round trip to the Targa Florio last Summer, that my dad and I realised
that we had covered best part of 2500 miles, and had not even once felt the need to have any music other than the flat 6

No radio or any tunes in my car ... except for my wonderful singing

But I am about to fit an old blaupunct, mainly for asthetics, but also for tuning into the radio retro stylie ( life on mars )

Radios & speakers deleted in each of my cars - they weigh too much...

i want the ipod connection so i can play this soundtrack constantly in the car
