Re sealing an engine??

Hi fellas

Heres another one for discussion-

I've got my engine on the 360' stand now and have cleaned off years of accumulated oily gunk, sent the rusty black tinwear off for blasting and powdercoating (kept the original paint fan shroud tho).

The engine fired up with very little coaxing after a 28 year lay up - but I'm looking at it now wondering where all the oil came from that I've just finished cleaning off. :?

I'm planning on running the motor for a season at least as is without going in deep, the question is which oil seals / gaskets etc. would you recommend renewing whilst the engine is on the stand :?:

I've bought myself a pair of quality rocker cover gaskets - but I'm thinking I should maybe go a little further :?

Any comments - past experiences

Thanks

Steve

I think they say to always replace the oil seals around the oil cooler tower in the shroud................. :|
carbs to manifold prob as well
fuel pump ones too if you can get a rebuild kit, as they are probably on their way out by now.
that reminds me....... :(

Hi there.

I can't urge you too strongly to do it right now..full strip and check everything..trust no-one..

The labour involved is muchy less than the 911 motor, but the bits you need to replace if something goes wrong will cost you plenty.

I have caught many many problems in "unknown" engines which would have cost dear had it been simply used..

Kind regards
David

I kinda agree with David on this one.. it's best to strip down and do a refesh and check over..

and use new gasket set from CSP in the states costs more but it the bee's knee's

also use Yahama bond or another one Honda bond to seal up the case and any other parts.. makes a huge difference..
