Check/clean/adjust the (distributor) points - a common cause of a fluctuating tacho needle.

Hello Lewis
A replacement voltage regulator fixed this very same thing on my 911, have you checked the voltage at the battery with the engine running, is it steady?

double what's been said.. check usual running stuff first.. had this years ago on a VW polo turned out the points where badly eroded which the muppet who sold the car to me then adjusted the disy to suit..

Lucky I bought it Cheap because he and I thought the clutch had gone..£20 at Halfords was running well again. No Tacho or Clutch needed..
