Generator help needed

Post by hunter »

Hi all.

I'm about to refit my generator.

First i need to tighten the fan nut up - i understand this is 70 lb/ft torque setting. Whats the best way to do this?
Will it be okay to clamp the pulley hub (the actual hub, not the pulley halves) in a wood vice and tighten the rear nut, that is, will the woodruf key take that kind of torque or is there an easier/better way to do this.

Also, as i've had the genny apart, i take it i will need to polarize it.
I am going to do this on the bench before fitting.
Can someone explain (in idiot-proof language) what i need to do.
I will have the genny and my battery on the bench with cables ready.

What do i touch, where and with what wire?

What will happen when i do it?

Can i die/melt something if i get it wrong

Cheers for now
