I've bought another car.

I'm not sure if I'm excited or fearful.

As you can see, it's a little way off getting an MOT.
In fact it's looking pretty sad at the moment but it will be transformed.
This neglected early 911 will see the road again.

You may have seen the car go by on eBay many weeks ago. In fact I flagged it here on the forum at the time but the vendor had very unrealistic expectations and it failed to sell, not once, but twice. So, the seller took his reality check on the chin and revised his expectations down from £8k to £5k to £2.5k.
I got it for £2k.

However, the car has been stripped in readiness for conversion to an RS replica that never happened. The seller had owned the car for twelve years but never got around to completing the project. During his early years with the car anything rotten was discarded and the engine sold on (as he was going to substitute a 2.7). Therefore it's never going to be 'matching numbers' (unless, by a miracle, I can turn up the original engine).

But... It's a genuine UK RHD 2.4E. There's only 4 previous owners listed on the V5. It was originally Black (the log book says). In fairness it did come with plenty of parts but I'm still trying to piece together just what I've got.
So, I think it worth restoring, though I confess it may well cost more than it is subsequently worth but I'm hoping I'll end up with a very fine car.

So you've done the mint, everything correct rebuild on your 'S' so can we expect something still mint, but a little more way out on this one?

Here's a few of the 'bonus' bits I got with it.
Peer into those boxes and you'll find two front seats, both rear seats, some door cards, trim panels, the guages, front and rear suspension, various trims and brightware, the odd bit of glass, sunroof and all it's mechanism, steering rack, some fresh metalwork etc, etc. Even the external oil filler butchered from the wing.

Sadly the exciting haul of valuable spare parts turned out to include several non Porsche parts (the door window for staters, along with loads of carpet and sound deadening, I think the PO was doing High Wycombe Council a favour).

But we did find the door handles.... now did Paul get the keys?......

You may be pleasantly surprised at the cost of resto vs value..lots of marginal projects are looking much more sensible right now..

The previous owner worked at Modena Lamborghini (they used to also handle Porsches some years ago).

In the background you can see a car that Ken Livingston probably wouldn't like. It did sound nice when they moved it though!

David, I think the claimed provenance for the car is very unlikely.
It was said to have been one of the '72 Motor Show Cars but I don't think it stacks up.
Now I have the car, I'll get it registered in my name and check with Porsche and the DVLA and see what I can discover.
I bought it believing it NOT to be the Motor Show Car.
'Doubt it was Vic Elfords either.

I half believe the motor show story and I hope it turns out to be true. What he says about the reg being 7, 8 and 9 seems plausible. I have a letter from Porsche confirming mine was prepared for the 71 Earls Court Motor Show although they could not confirm it was actually used at it.

From my list of S cars not one was black in 72 so it would seem likely that the original colour might be entirely different.

Presumably you get the reg number with yours and can soon write to Porsche to get the full original spec.

Nigel, Thanks. Yes, it will be nice if I can discover any history especially if it's been used by Porsche but it seems unlikely. I'll let you know how I get on.

The PO was convinced the car was originally black and that's what the V5 shows. However it's been so comprehensively blasted clean, very little original paint remains. There is evidence of black in places but it could be spray from areas where it would have been black anyway (i.e. engine compartment, dash etc.).

Rather confusingly one the the myriad of parts with the car is the sunroof. Is it original or replacement? It seems to be Blue (Gemini?).

Whats all this then?

Yeap, that’s Gemini Blue. I suspect the gold maybe a primer . The rust by your hand in the previous pic is not a good sign.

Porsche will be able to confirm the colour from the vin number
