T1 or T4?

Post by abzadams »

Just thinking about next years winter project. At the moment I have 1600 fitted with kadrons, but been thinking lately about possible either upgrading to T1 1776 or fitting an almost standard T4 2 ltr. I know it's a long off, but I would need to hide the money away (from the other half!!!! )
Anybody got any advice?

I'm biased but i'd say type IV. (I used to run a 1641cc Type 1 but now run a 2270cc Type IV)

For information on the Type IV path, take a close look at the shoptalkforums ( http://www.shoptalkforums.com ), listen to IV dimension radio, and look out for Jake Raby's new Type IV forum from Nov 1st ( http://www.aircooledtechnology.com ).

Even cheaper power can be had from a Suburu (or Alfa) lump if you don't mind the radiator :( . Both are flat fours.

depends on how much you want to spend, big power from a T4 will cost more than a T1, but it will most likely last longer and give you better options for BIG power if you want in the future. T1 will give you more power for less, and probably less hassle if you're running T1 already.

I'd go T4

I'd go T4. I've run alot of tuned T1 stuff but the 2056cc T4 on 44's in my 914 is awesome. Not a full race motor but alot of head work , balanced etc. Fit a decent cam , headwork and you have a well pokey motor thats way stronger than a T1 and more fun to drive. If your interested i can give you the full spec /output figures on a 2056cc T4. As i have every receipt i can give you a good rough costing aswell. Most stuff was from Stateside tuning.

Thanks guys, I have decided to go down the T4 route. Just need to find a T4 / 914 engine for the basis.

Dannyboy: I would be interested in the data / costs etc.
