Pleased to say that it went through it's MoT (just got back): no problems, and drove pretty nicely really. My oil-change-and-hope-for-the-best approach has been vindicated on the rear axle, and the gearbox is near silent and shifts perfectly with ace synchro's.
The only thing it did do was jump out of third when I gave it a bit more juice
Otherwise it was all fine, and pulled much stronger than I remembered: and this is a new engine without the 'hot' bits fitted yet

As you can imagine there's now a list of the initial shakedown jobs to work through (couple of hours worth). Hopefully will get the sideglass and Surrey top on over the weekend.
