Happy days here - V5 came through the letter box this morning. Paperwork received by the DVLA on Monday 23 Aug; V5 received by me on Weds 29 Sept. So just over 5 weeks.
And in case it helps anyone here are the fields I filled on on the V55/5:
1. State country where vehicle purchased from
2. Tax class (I entered historic)
4. Registration fee (£55) tax payable (nil)
5-10
18
27
30-34
46 (I used the date from the original bill of sale but did not provide a copy)
47
63
64
I did not get an MOT and that doesn't appear to have mattered.
Anyone waiting for UK registration on an imported vehicle ?

Many thanks to everyone who posted useful information in this thread. I have just received my V5 and it only took 10 days from start to finish.

I think I missed the photo of the fulvia somewhere along the line - maybe you could post another?

1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

- don't know if that referred to my (imported) Fulvia ... if so, there's a thread on it here:
