I saw some pix of a GT3 with martini livery donevlike this- very convincing!

I get the wrap Clive and yes tempted to do it but then there would be no need to paint the car in the first place??? I also think that wrapping is a modern car appearance technique, well for modern cars ironically to make them look aged. I think I'm still going to prefer a painted finish but with some vinyl...... jury still out.

Hi Robin,

I have been through similar thought processes several times about my hillclimb car. It was originally a light yellow 1972 E Series 2.4S.
It was converted to IB bodywork and sprayed metallic green  in Germany in 1977 - I have the receipts etc for it! It was imported to the UK in 1978, sprayed Arrow blue, stripped out, Autocrossed  and we bought it as an old competition car in 1985, rebuilt the body and sprayed it white, as it has stayed since. It would be very pretty (and expensive!) if it were rebuilt as a 2.4S now, but totally unremarkable, and not the lovely old car that brings a smile to my face every time I get in to it, that I have enjoyed competing in for the last 33 years. It was only ever "real" 2.4S for 5 years, its main history is as our hillclimb car.

Similarly, if it were me, I would re-spray your 67S in the colour scheme as it was when you bought it, and use it as you originally intended. It may have been a pristine 1967 S at one time, but I imagine that the majority of its history is as a well loved and used old race car, and that's how it should still look and be used after its refurbishment, keeping as much of the existing character as possible

Cheers!
JW

Robin,

Never mind the silver, paint it up like Elford’s Monte winning car, if it’s going to be a fun car make it look like one ;)

Or ofcourse, you know they look good in Blood Orange, so there’s another route.

Regardless of the colour the car will be used for competition, most likely the odd bash up Craigantlet and other NI hill climbs trying to keep MikeB honest - he might well have the legs on me. I'm also more than likely going to get an FIA HTP to allow the car to be used in period events where papers are required. Certainly the car will be road registered, road legal as well as being prepared for light competition use - the colour won't change anything.

James, again regardless of colour I agree that I need to use it as intended, I'm just one in a line of owners who will do as they see fit and use the car as they see fit. The car was originally Silver, the black then white with red/blue stripes.

The 911S shell now in primer with panels and wings going in primer tonight - then a bit of a flat down and correct any small areas that were missed during initial preparation. Always good to see the car looking better again after such a long time looking miserable, good to see it looking like a 911 again.

Back to bare metal for the front and rear lids. It was evident when flattening the original paintwork that there was previous damage and full of filler. Hoping to get the worst of the dents removed then a skim/high build prime before final paint. Both panels are stamped 556 and original o the car.
