That's right Sean. It fitted a treat with a minor bit of tweaking. The left lightbox needed a bit more 'adaption' and repair.

Well, Blue Belle has returned from the rehabilitation unit and has now undergone surgery again. The scuttle drain had suffered badly on the drip tray mounting edge so a replacement was donated by the Yellow Canary (yet another invaluable component).
You can possibly see the 'lacework' in this picture.



The required part was parted out of the 912 scuttle, trimmed and inplanted, not without difficulty, but with total success.








There is now a watertight scuttle drain.



Next was the rear window right hand demister tube drain aperture. The pictures are taken from the underside.





Onto the left hand side rear window corner. There was a small area that needed attention. Why is it always this corner that
goes?

Once this was done the nearside rear quarter was finished. Seconds to write about but hours to do.

I bought them back in December 2012 through e-Bay. Seller was 911renn but I don't see them for sale by him anymore. They cost £99 the pair at the time.
I see they are available via eBay from Germany just now and look very similar. Cheaper too (£80)!!

Ian, the car is looking really good. I would love to have the skill to tackle the jobs myself.

I was impressed with the engine grill renovation, can you talk me through that, mine is tatty and I would like to refurbish. The mesh at the base has a few dents and it would be great to blast and paint the bar but replace the mesh. What did you do to yours?

Regarding Toms request for engine grill renovation. Firstly - no blasting - you will blow them to pieces.
I had two grills to hand both needing reworking. The whole structure can be disassembled but I fear it will be unlikely that the dome head nuts will off from their aluminum shafts easily. I tried a little heat and WD40 but out of the two grills, I managed to save only one full set of spindles. With the snapped off ends of alloy stuck in the dome nuts, things get fiddly to save the nuts.
The bars come apart when you release the nuts and you will find the structure is made up of 'thasands of bits rollin' all oover place'. Again, no blasting, however gentle, it's anodised tube and you'll knock the gloss off. The bars are also anodised. Careful cleaning is all you can do. Mine came up remarkably well even though I had to use paint stripper on one set because it had been sprayed black by PO. Bent bars can be carefully straightened quite successfully. Note they are all numbered to help re-assembly - each bar is a different length.
Take great care of your alloy T-piece fixtures as they expensive to replace. I bought two sets many years ago off e-bay in the US. The seller is still there.

One mesh was good and the other a little broken but usable with a little care. They are made of aluminum so great care is needed not to damage them further. I managed to repair a tear in the mesh in one place with fine wire holding it together. Once sprayed and assembled it is difficult to see any damage. I did not part the upper and lower sets of bars so I have no experience in actually replacing the mesh.
I carefully washed the meshes, and with bars masked, rattle-can sprayed them.
Re-assembly was not difficult though a bit tedious. I used new stainless M4 threaded rod and new stainless domed nuts and washers on one grill and that worked fine. The replacement nuts do not have such a deep dome as the original Porsche ones.
The other grill was re-assembled with the saved Porsche originals though it did have new t-peices.

The 'green' engine cover fits fine but needs a little TLC (it has evidence of thirteen coats of paints on it). The original one had been replaced with a fibreglass ducktail in its boy racer years and I had bought another one at a Porsche day at Donnington in the days of yore. It was the correct type with strut in the grill opening and that was all I was bothered about then. Imagine my delight, after reading a recent post on Early 911 Registry, I find it is period correct with 46mm badge holes and correct drain holes. Even the number stamping is only 6 numbers different to Blue Belle!

First, the engine cover. Substantially good but one bad corner and lots of minor irregularities hidden by its 13 coats of paint.
