This is a great photo from the factory in 1974.
Now, that's what my brakes should look like...

So I packed them up and shipped them off for refurbishing.

I had the brakes fully refurbished by Classicar Automotive.
They’re a small outfit, based in Cheshire and come recommended by many DDK’ers.
And they proved to be good and efficient.
They thoroughly restored both the aluminium front calipers and the rear M-type iron calipers, re-plating them and reassembling with new pistons, seals and dust covers.
It took them just over a week and I’m very pleased with the results.
Less than £400 the lot.

An investment!
Are the alloy fronts painted?
Finish looks odd for an electroplating/anodising process?
Like that tank, great peace of mind.
Great thread, will be FAB when on the road.

I don't know what plating they used on the fronts but they did caution me that the aluminium would be a different finish to the rears.

Yes, I think they used 18 carat for the fronts and 24 carat for the rears....

I used them as well and they did a great job, but my fronts did not look the same colour / finish as yours - is there a photo of the original finish.
Think these are my fronts

They shouldn’t be black & silver - like the early cars – as in 1974 the rules changed to insist on white & yellow reflective backgrounds to the plates.
I didn’t want the more common acrylic versions, they look too modern to my eyes. These plates are compliant and look period correct.

No, they don't. They're the modern, post-2001 typeface, and they look wrong. Try here:

Or even better, here:

I'm loving this build, but you can't go to the levels of detail you're going to and get this one so very, very wrong.
