The complete roof I'd purchased from Porsche was a great solution to eliminating the corrosion throughout that panel.
However, along with much of the other sheet metal I'd sourced, it too needed 'backdating' to be correct for a 1974 car.
The roof shape remained unchanged right up to the 993 model and at first glance appears ideal for any air-cooled 911.
However there were a few visual clues that the roof still available from Porsche was for a later 3.2.
The wiper spindle holes are correctly spaced (they're narrower on a 993) but the washer jet holes were square and would need to be welded up.

The rather more troubling differences would only become visible upon opening the sunroof.
The early cars (and the '74's) have the bright silver polished metal trim around the three sides of the leading edge of the aperture.
Open the sunroof on a later car and it's trimmed in black and of a different design.

This is what you should see when opening a 1974 model year sunroof.
A sight familiar to owners of all early 911's.
Lots of polished metal and the rather complex, multi-piece deflector.
I think they were made by Golde, I'm sure I remember seeing that brand name on one of the castings when I disassembled mine.
This particular Carrera is painted in a wonderful colour called 'Lime Green'.

So, the sunroof cassette on the underside of the roof needed altering to accept the early decor panels as they have different fixing holes.
It would also be necessary to install the correct brackets for the early style sunroof electric motor (positioned at the rear of the cassette).

The relevant sections were cut from the original shell and grafted into the new roof.
The sunroof infill panel remains the original.

OK, I make no apology for interrupting the documenting of the shell repairs to present this car to you.
I was alterted to it by Ryan's blog - http://blog.eurocarrera.com - as that lad has a knack of discovering anything MFI Carrera that happens around the world.

This one is a beauty.
It's about as good as it gets.
I can see a few minor quibbles (incorrect seat tipping buttons, should be chrome fogs, etc) but it would be churlish to complain. I can't see pictures of the restoration or how comprehensive that work was but you don't need to know much more than what you're looking at. It's superb.

Now, you're certain to want to buy it so how much and where?

Oh, and $249,000 equates to nearly £165k at todays exchange rate.
So, all the money and then some. Top dollar as they say.
Who knows what it will go for? Someone will want.

Very nice, Paul. Magenta eh? Before I clicked on the link I was thinking Fraise. It must be heartening to see the value the owner has put on the car knowing yours will turn out as nice (and no doubt more correct!) and in an arguably more desirable colour?

p.s. If thats quarter of a million bucks, i can only imagine what a 100% original car, 50k miles from new, 3 owners, full history must be worth.....

That pink carrera looks fabulous so I can see why you might question the lime green decision.
