Richard, I am sure that would be an interesting car since it is right on the transition from 1965 to 1966 model year as far as date of production. Being RHD can make it peculiar. Can you post a photo of the paint badge, and the corner of the dash. I would like to be certain of the actual paint code stamping, the ignition bezel, and the type of knee pad this car came with. Any other info you are willing to share would be useful.

Its all matching numbers only deviations are webers, and steel wheels should be chrome.

Can’t really fill in a lot of the history. The first owner already mentioned on here sold it fairly quickly. When the second owner died it was briefly register in his wife’s name and then sold to the current owner.

Speaking to my father he does remember the car having a nice enamel PCGB badge on the rear grill, but it had gone when he went picked up the car a few days later. He also wrote to the previous owner’s wife a few months after he bought it back in the early eighties, but never got a response.

I was looking through some old paperwork and found letters from Porsche Club GB dated 1986 stating 34 RHD were registered in the UK in the calendar year 1965, and less than 400 RHD up to the end of 1969. Plus another letter stating this car was registered on 15th August 1965.

Can’t find the letter from Porsche Cars GB about it being on the first consignment of 911’s delivered to the UK. I'm sure it mentioned that some were tourist cars.

It would be interesting to see the Kardex as I imagine it was the second owner who dumped the solex’s and had them replaced for webers. I don't think Kendrick kept the car for more than a year.

At the risk of boring everyone - and looking stupid at the same time - can I go back to the question of where the wipers park on the earliest RHD cars please. I'm guessing there is a definitive answer, but I am not clear what it is. Brett Johnson says wipers park on the right on an early car, regardless. I'm guessing he means the right as seen from within the car - which means in front of the driver on a RHD car. David LGK, on the other hand, says they park in front of the passenger. The two RHD cars rounding Paddock Hill bend in the Chris Harvey article above illustrate both schools of thought. Hmm. Would be interested to hear other views. Many thanks, Robert

I feel sure the early RHD cars had the wipers parking on the passenger side. This has been confirmed by early photos of my car.

I also, have seen many SWB cars with the wipers parked on the drivers side and I guess the advantage of immediate clearance of the screen must have been the reason for the changeover.

I hear you Ian, but then I see this pic in a related thread on the forum. It appears to be an early picture of MMU 911C with the wipers the other way round, no?

MMU 911C was the RHD development car and received many tweaks in its life. I have wondered just when this picture was taken. There was an article on it in Porsche Post in October 2000 where it wears its wipers on the passenger side. It is so easy to change them over that I guess it came down to driver preference. Rally work would demand fastest response.
If you look at Stuart Kays car (Aussie no 1 - 301503) that has its wipers parked on the passenger side. Also ANW 104C was tested in Classic Cars in October 1997- also passenger side. No 1 NZ car is the same.
LHD cars also parked on their passenger side. Porsche changed to driver parking for 1968 model cars. Parts Catalogue confirm this.

I have always thought it strange that MMU 911C was never road tested and that there are so few early articles featuring it.

MMU911C is a difficult car to use as a reference due to the fact it was the prototype and was SO very early. Detail RHD features would have been ignored at this point. You have to remember it's something like 1000 chassis numbers ahead of the first batch of RHD cars that were ever made. I don't think it was released from the factory until later, knowing AFN they probably convinced Porsche they could still sell it. All RHD 1965 MY cars have the wipers parker on the passenger side. I would say Ian is correct that it was altered for 68MY.

If you notice MMU911C in this photo above appears to have US spec sealed beam headlight.

Fun? This is very serious stuff Ian! I am slowly coming round to your way of thinking. Brooklands Books Porsche Cars 1964-68 shows LYY 911D with wipers parked on the passenger side, FYN 912C ditto, FGX 911C ditto, GVB 911 ditto, and HBY 912D ditto. I guess that is persuasive evidence. I also notice, from the Classic Porsche magazine article, that MMU 911C's wipers now park on the passenger side having not done so earlier in its life!
