I'd give these a stab as they are near me and they sorted out some custom brake cables for me while a waited, but I don't have any instruments that need refurbing. They certainly seem to offer the same services what Speedy Cables do.

They do industrial stuff too

So I imagine pretty standard VDO gauges out of a crusty old Porsche is a walk in the park.

They returned them in 7 working days and as they have had bad press returned you $500.00 - and a promise to make me and other previous customers much happier in the future with no grumpy comments like "well we only received them 5 weeks ago" from their head of PR (part-time).

They say a happy customer tells one or two people but unhappy customers tell 7 people. Think you've easily surpassed 7 but with service like this they deserve it. Amazing.

Entertainingly written story Paul but totally unacceptable 'service' - & the exterior of the cases shouldn't be painted anyway !

People have often asked me why I always send my gauges to North Hollywood Speedo for refurbishment or custom work ...

Their turnround time is often only a week (sometimes even less) - maybe a couple of weeks at most.

They always email me an invoice for checking prior to taking payment.

I usually receive the gauges back within 7-10 days after paying & very rarely have had to pay any import taxes as they clearly state on the customs form that these are the customers gauges being returned after refurbishment.

As I am currently in California & was in LA last week, I called in to see them & received a very friendly reception (& some excellent coffee !) & was given a guided tour of their operation - about 6 guys all with particular specialities & I met a couple of them who had restored gauges for me & remembered my name. One guy was actually working on some instruments for Alan Drayson at Canford Classics !

Sorry to hijack your thread but it's a great shame that there doesn't seem to be anyone in the UK who can compare - & I've tried most of the UK 'specialists' ...

Hi Paul,

Great story, really enjoyed reading that!

If they were my gauges i'd honestly be appalled!! They may look good but 340+ days thats ridiculous - they moved within the period and misplaced your items, twice seemingly...

If I owned Speedy cables I would not charge you - If I had a restoration job in which takes a weeks work (which I have many of btw) and returned it a year later I would simply not charge the customer!

Nige,

I tried to get Speedograph Richfield to work their magic on my non moving odometer on my speedo circa 3 years ago but it wasn't a service they could provide back then. Shame as I was working in Nottingham at the time too and they were 5 minutes away. They are very good with other instruments though, Smiths etc.

Sorry to read this Paul. It appears I was lucky with my recent repair as posted on the other thread
