Hi Mark, had to keep dragging myself away from the watches to look at the cars! Its a Heuer Rally Master dashboard timer set I lust after, best set was £2500
Pauls pics are fantastic, they give a real sense of what it was like, try and come along next year, the beer's really good too

Does anyone know why the 914/6 in the early pics has a red section painted on one of the segments of its wheels ???
Never seen this before - whats its purpose ???

And the sauerkraut. Oh the sauerkraut. Worth the trip for the cuisine alone. 'Never had cabbage so good.
Mike really had to be stopped from buying those Heuer's.
He had money burning a hole in his pocket. A big pocket too.
But that money was set aside for rare RSR engine parts.
He never set out with a need for rally timers.
We kept stopping him but he kept saying "you go off guys, I just need to see someone" and then we'd find him dribbling over a glass case of watches. He came close to buying, very close.

as its a racing car I guess it's to quickly find the valves during pit stops, however in practice the wheels would be covered in brake dust so you wouldn't see the red anyway.......

Yes I'll try and make it next time - looks a fantastic show and yes Paul's pictures make you feel you were there
Would your car have had a Heuer Rally Master dashboard timer set then - if so then it has to be done....

Great pictures Paul.
Fantastic account of the richness that was to be found. But I get the sense that some of these German restaurations are becoming somewhat crude if not to say distinctly second class in their execution.
If I compare what is happening here in the UK - and three projects spring to mind citing three different "hubs of crafstmen" -
Andy and his 911R
Mike Moore with his 2.8RSR
and if Paul was posting a bit more then we would all know about his 911S/T
then I notice that here there is
*the willingness to put in the research in a fun but possibly a bit anoraky way
*A gung- ho attitude to manufacturing obsolete or difficult to find parts
*an attention to detail in the manufacturing process that can
only be found through years of experience in that particular speciality
*the budget and the willingness to obtain period correct and original parts
and therefore it results that the UK porsche scene can compete with the very best on a global scale.
Did Porsche AG actually ever gave anyone feedback on the work done here?
Best regards,
Bert

I doubt an RSR would have had them in period, but as for todays regularity runs like Targa Florio, Tour Britannia and Tour Auto, which is what I'm building the car for, they would be perfect!
Might have to up the budget.....again
BTW, saw the organiser's in Essen and car's been accepted for next years running of the Giro di Sicilia, the Targa Florio re-run, its their 21st anniversary, so should be a bit special

I think there's already some feedback then! Well done Mike!

Bert, the whole forum is offended.
All of us on DDK are certainly very anoraky.
No 'possibly' about it.

Brilliant news - give you something to aim for (other than perfection of course!)

I also object in the strongest possible terms to the use of the word 'bit' - I left behind a 'bit' anoraky in my early teens. I did think I'd achieved the dizzy heights of 'very' anoraky but having met some of the people on this forum I think I've got a way to go yet. I think I could claim to be 'moderately' anoraky (though my kids would argue I'm way beyond this)
