It’s interesting to note that when specified with this option the bonnet wasn’t drilled for the Porsche crest.
The design of the font for the middle numeral (1) means that the badge would appear visually off-centre (or just clash with the graphic) so it was deemed best left off.
You can tell if stripes have been fitted aftermarket, often the crest remains in place and it looks rather odd. Witness this....

This is a picture of a genuine (original paint and panel) car and you can see the badge delete and hence the lack of fixing holes.
Go back and look at the studio shot from the advert pictured earlier and it shows the cars left the factory with no crest fitted when the ‘safety stripes’ option was selected.

Personal thought since you asked, you must be kidding about those stripes.
Straight out of Wheeler Dealer and worse imho.
Good on a race car though.

Do we fill the holes on the bonnet then?

The stripes have to go... go straight on your car! They are wonderful. Always loved them, especially orange on a black car, or black on a lime green one. Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Be brave. Be a MAN!
You know you want to...

No, yes, no, yes, no....
Ask DDK for a clear concise answer and what do you get? Not much help at all.
But thanks for the comments, I did think that option might polarise opinions.

Sorry Keith I don't think I can do it.
I'm tempted but (for now) I won't fit the stripes.
Nick Moss wrote:Do we fill the holes on the bonnet then?
No Nick, leave alone, I will be fitting a badge.

Such a disappointment. You'll be telling me you're not backdating it next... Sigh...

Is he not? All that work and he leaves the lumpy bumpers on!

One last gearbox pic to keep you amused for a week or so and then upon my return I'll post up some pics of the shell restored to rust-free.
Hope you had a good holiday Paul, and there appears to have been a change of programme on the PC this evening. Deviating from the above schedule we had an excellent review of the history of the period correct steering wheel ........... will the original scheduled bodywork programme be on our PC this evening
Whilst we are at it, what future episodes should we watch out for ........ how to spot the correct carpet weave, or do you know your headliner from your B-Post fabric - I kid.......
Much appreciating the pictures and detail in this restoration thread - can it get more pages than Mike's !

Thanks Ian, don't worry, there's plenty more to follow.
Those who value originality above all else will have yet more to fret about before we're done....
