They ARE VERY close and you are always mindful of them.
Several people (esp tin tops) lean against them for cornering.....
An exacting sport you might say.

Barriers are for sissies
Here have one of our Ulster hills, Drumhorc, one mile of damp bumpy fun

Sure is.
Do a YouTube search for Spelga, Croft hillclimb, Benbradagh and Craigantlet to see some of the rest.
You're all a bit cosseted in GB.

Good grief!
You can imagine the things we do to Loton Park track to make it 'safe' though you can still find rocks and trees if you deviate a tad too much...
I'll stay in the softie UK I think, fed-up of fibre glassing the Lola front body already!

Living in Belfast I have 9 hillclimbs and 3 sprint tracks within a 60 mile radius, so you get lots of experience at different venues, plus most of the roads are wide compared to the GB tracks so you can throw the car about a bit more.
You really should come and do Craigantlet, the Lola would just lap it up.

Isn't it very bumpy? (public roads etc)
The long distance hill are expensive to do, some say the Islands are £2000 when finished with.
That is my annual budget for the basics for 10 hill events.
Any idea what causes this on my rear tyres (A15 compound/fresh and crossply/ 15 psi)

Graham,
I assume you are talking about the " dead rubber" at the side of the tread area
It's because you are going quick !!! That's the rubber you've worn off the soft treads, it gets hot and rolls to towards the side wall. You need to get a rasp and remove it from the tyre before your next run, as it is no longer of any use. You should clean it off after every run, it will help your handling, also wash the front tyres before each run and get a pair of tyre wraps so you can drive to the line on clean tyres, that really makes a big difference for the first turn. I didn't do that until Doune one year and I nearly put it into the inside barrier on the first turn as the front end just gripped so much more that I was used to.
Yes, some of our tracks are bumpy, but Craigantlet isn't and neither is Cairncastle, if the BHC guys can run their Pilbeams and Goulds without problems then they are OK.
The Chanel Islands are dear because of the all the ferry trips. It used to cost me about £500 to do Harewood, but that included two night in the Harewood Arms hotel, our event are only one day, so you don't have as much expense. I always enjoyed doing the GB hills for a bit of variety, it's good to go somewhere different every now and again. I could never understand folk who just did the Midland Triangle and never ventured further afield.

Yes indeed 'dead' rubber but my fellow racer in class in his Millington 3 million bhp Pilbeam MP43 has radials which looked un-marked after the same run, and was 4 secs faster too.
I am using 13 psi Fr and 15 psi rear, but think i have too much negative in the rear end.
Fronts are fine.
I do the midland triangle but also Barbon as a treat. It is time and overnight stay that keeps me 'centralised'
Classic:
Pair of great vids, thank you.
Makes me want to stay in the Triangle even more!
I don't have the mind for that level of commitment to be honest.

That sort of wear is fine, I used to be able to gather a golf ball sized lump of rubber from the 4 tyres on the Jedi after a run.
I played with camber at Harewood one time, reduced it and got a better 64ft time by a tenth, but the lost 4 tenths on the twisty bit to mid point. So needless to say the camber went back on after that.
Bottom line is that tyres are the most important component to performance and fresh soft rubber is worth a lot of time, so don't waste time using year old tyres if you want results. Get last years slick cut into wets and a new set of slicks for the season. Now that you have the car going well you can think about that for next year, unless you win the Lottery
On pressures, check the sidewalls to see if there is any scuffing, going up a couple of lbs can really help sidewall stability and provide more grip and turn-in. But you've plenty of time to experiment this year, we'll only be expecting Class wins next year, Graham

A lot has happened recently as the engine died at Prescott a week ago.
The pictures say it all.
V Difficult to give the failure mode except this carnage only made a light rattle sound!
The bang happened in 3rd at absolute full chat and 5500.
Shopping tomorrow for a few parts......

Messy...
What do you think the failure mode was? Is that half a piston I see?

Hi Graham.
Have the big end bolts snapped and was the Gudgeon pin in one piece?
