Re: 1970 "S"
Lovely day to day. Sunny and only moderately cold. Should remain like this until late afternoon. No wind. Well not the one related to the weather. That's the weather forecast over. You may ask how come I can take out the 911? Well SWBO has gone to London for the dentist/ hair do /pedicure / manicure / lunch etc. So I am a free agent. Well freeish as I am on duty for creating the evening meal which is preceded by shopping. The instruction was " something vegetarian". I digress which what happens when you are closer to 80 than 70.
The S has not been touched since late October 2024 and has sat in the garage at home. Although calling it a garage is technically correct a better description would be store room. Tons of woodworking tools, power tools, plumbing tools etc even though they all belong to another life. Chest of drawers crammed with Porsche parts and lots of part used paint tins from the house refurb last year. Masses of floor tiles left over as obviously I can't measure properly. And a few bits of furniture.
The car has been on a battery conditioner so hopefully should be sufficient juice to start the car up. But I am getting ahead of myself. As my garage/ store room is of the tandem variety I had to move the ST first ( see seperate post on that). Turned the key to activate the fuel pump. Nice ticking sound. Waited a bit then tried to start. Third attempt and success! Yay! as my daughter would exclaim. In gear and gingerly reverse past the detritus and the newly acquired pressure washer. Onto the drive and closed the garage door. It is a section style door so I can close it with an electronic device so no need to shift my lardy arse out of the driving seat. And off we go. A 30 mile circular route on A and B roads and little traffic.Until the oil is warm the dog leg box is not particularly smooth but once warmed up ? a bit like me, it is quite nice to use. I have to concentrate swopping cogs as the ST has a 915 box so a different layout to the S. Given the dimming of the grey matter I occasionally forget exactly where I am in the gearbox. The car is a real delight to drive especially when getting over 5000 RPM and moving swiftly to 7000. Smashing noise and remarkably quick for a 54 year old vehicle.
Pleased with the car and returned home and back in the garage. Got out a duster and some windscreen cleaner and got most the the crap off the screen which has sat there for four months. Flushed with success....easily pleased these days...cleaned the other glass and then wiped down the Fuchs. Opened the engine lid and did a bit of spring cleaning on the engine. Obviously had a rush of blood to my head so gave myself a talking to and stopped with the titivating. A happy outcome.

Re: 1970 "S"
Been contemplating a few things of late. Something to do with being much closer to 80 than 70. Tempus fugit. First have been thoughts of selling both Porsches and buying something else. No fixed idea of the "something else". Second the up coming trip to Classic Le Mans with the Cars and Cabbages mob. Concerned that the car will not make it. Irrational really as it has never let me down but there is always a first time. So in preparation, if you can call it that, the car is going to Autofarm for oil and filter change and a check over.
Not been out in the S for three months. Where does the time go? In my case I have a partial answer. Most of May was taken up with enforced holidays courtesy of SWMBO: Scotland, Lake District, Italy and Amsterdam plus visits by one of daughters. And preparing the front garden of 100m2 for turf. All good but what about March and April? Lots of tending to the newly created rear garden. This is an old gits occupation of course fiddling in the garden, weeding, tieing up this and that, trimming and grass cutting as well as lots of watering given the fine dry weather. How the mighty have fallen when gardening becomes a 'thing'. Or as predictive spelling insists it is "thong". So bugger all activity in Porsches. Highlight of the month I did buy a new pair of jeans as my gardening attire came into criticism as being filthy and
" they are not going into the washing machine". Ventured to the local Sainsburys and lashed out £15.00. SWMBO, who is a fashion snob, was appalled regarding the high fashion purchase. I said I would only wear them for gardening. I lied. Been wearing them non stop for a week. Cheap irritant. If you get my meaning?
So removed the ST replica from the tandem garage and took it for a 25 mile drive. This was to enable the removal of the S. The S Started first turn of the key. It still has the carpets in it that it left the factory with. A bit tatty in places but more "patina" than "knackered". Still there was a brief thought of replacing them. But it was fleeting. First off fuel. Then the same 25 mile route as the ST. A longish section down the A44 which has a decent surface then towards Soho House, the Beckhams gaff and thence through a couple of villages at 20mph limit towards Bicester and finally to Woodstock. By the time I got to Woodstock .......................only if you are of a certain age would you get that reference. Contemplated how I felt about the drive as I had never done back to back drives on the S and ST. Initially, and as expected the S is quieter than the ST and a more relaxed drive. The gearbox is characterful being of the dog leg type and changes have to be made carefully and slowish but not ponderously so. On reflection the leisurely pace I took in the first part of the route felt a little disappointing. The emotion is not something I have experience in the S before. However, things change when you can wind the S up to 7000 RPM and the car feels more alive. Surprisingly the S does not ride the various pot holes or poor iron work in the road surface particularly well. This is not attributed to the condition of the suspension but possibly the tire pressures?
Upon my return SWMBO was back home after some cultural event or other. Asked if I had been out in " my smelly old cars?" This is a change from refering to me in a similar vein. SWMB is not a fan of my Porsches and refuses to get into them. See there are upsides.

No there weren't that particular number but there is an event on at Bleheim Palace. No longer a historic pile more an entertainment venue.

Thank you. Yes strutting around in the £15 jeans today whistling. Told to "stop whistling as it is irritating". Double whammy. Result.
